Welcome Karin, SCD and GFCF are two very different dietary interventions. The science supporting SCD excludes the use of dissaccharide carbohydrates such as those in grains, many root vegetables like potatoes, also corn, sugar, soy and yeast as they are hard for a damaged digestive system to process. It is a misunderstanding to think one diet is an extension of stage of the other or that they should be combined. However many who have switched from GFCF to SCD choose to make the transition gradual rather than sudden. This is a personal choice. ( personally I favor phasing out the restricted carbs as soon as possible) The progress time line will differ from person to person. Some report progress in days, others in weeks or months. At first you may also see a negative reaction known as " die off " . It is suggested that a person gives SCD a trial of at least one month and does so knowing that for best results, strict compliance is required. You will get help and support for your questions from parents here and many report very good results. Good luck! Carol F. Toronto, Celiac, SCD 4 yrs.
