Pierre,

Thanks for pointing out this info on Plaquenil. After having an

experience during 1999 with the onset of uveitis and the threat of

losing my sight, I wouldn't even THINK about using it. That was one of

the darkest periods in my life since my diagnosis in 1996. There have

been stories where people on Plaquenil, even with the sight tests, have

experienced problems. With other, better choices, " No, thank you very

much. " Though my sight was drastically reduced during that time,

thanks to Dr. Emil Wirostko in NJ/NY (AP ophthalmologist), the

inflammation was reduced and my vision now measures the same as before

the incident -- sort of a miracle to me, for the original

ophthalmologists said that what I lost, I would not get back.

Thanksgiving has taken on many new meanings,

Hi bg,

Back in 1991-1993, I had a similar uveitis experience that lasted 18

months in all. It was controled with a cortisone ointment in the eyes

at night and cortisone drops during the daytime.

I had been taking Aralen in 1989-1990, then Plaquenil for the 1991-1993

period.

I do not think that there is a link between uveitis and Plaquenil or

Aralen.

However, uveitis is a sign of uncontrolled inflammation to be

controlled by a change of NSAIDs for an effective brand of NSAIDs.

Typically, this is when doctors will suggest the introduction of the

first DMARD, in this case, Plaquenil, one of the mildest DMARD

available. If Plaquenil does not reduce inflammation, doctors will

suggest a change of DMARD, possibly Salazopyrin ENT (Sulfasalazine) or

Methotrexate.
