Guest guest
I am scheduled for a level 2 ultrasound on 10-25. I will be 19 weeks at that time. How well will they be able to see the sex of the baby? We would love to know, and know asap, and I don't know if there will be any other ultrasounds done. Also, I have gained 8lbs and I am 4 months. Any thoughts on this. Is this normal, or to much? Thanks edd 3/14/02 RNY 4/14/01 -125lbs
Guest guest
I haven't had WLS surgery yet. But I did have a level 2 ultrasound when I had my baby. It's amazing. You will see quite a bit although it may not look like much to us (the untrained). Yes they will be able to see the sex of the baby, they can tell how much the baby weighs and how long the baby is. I had to have quite a few of these ultrasounds because I had complications and the baby wasn't growing due to my high blood pressure. I had three in three weeks and they were able to tell everything. The one week the baby was 2.75pounds and he stayed that way until I delivered. He was 3 pounds even. I delivered him 8 weeks early. He is perfect now, at almost 2 years old. You will be in awe at least I was. sex of the baby??? I am scheduled for a level 2 ultrasound on 10-25. I will be 19 weeks at that time. How well will they be able to see the sex of the baby? Guest guest
I had a regular ultrasound with my second pregnancy at 19weeks and I was preg with twins. At that time we found out it was a girl and a boy, so I think you have pretty good chance to see what the sex is, unless the baby closes his legs LOL I believe the level 2 is a little more clear on what they can see than a regular sonogram. As far as the weight gain, i don't know if it is normal, I haven't gotten pregnant yet ...post op anyway Cheers to finding out the sex of the baby.. > > I am scheduled for a level 2 ultrasound on 10-25. > I will be 19 weeks at that time. > > How well will they be able to see the sex of the baby? > We would love to know, and know asap, and I don't know > if there will be any other ultrasounds done. > > Also, I have gained 8lbs and I am 4 months. > Any thoughts on this. Guest guest
Hi , I had my level 2 u/s at 22 weeks and could see the sex of the baby(boy) perfectly. It just so happened that we had a regular ultrasound in the docs office the day before too, and he (OB) could tell the sex at that visit as well, although I couldnt really see it that day. (Hubby insists he did though) There is a great chance you should be able to see the sex at the level 2 at 19 weeks. As far as your weight goes, I would say that is normal, and NOTHING to worry about. Good luck in your ultrasound. Marcy Wallis edd 12/08/02 Baby Boy!!! Mom to a beautiful 8 yr old daughter (PRE WLS) sex of the baby??? I am scheduled for a level 2 ultrasound on 10-25. Guest guest
well i would hope that there would be more ultrasounds during your pregnancy...to stop having them at 19 weeks is not normal...and alot of doctors can tell the baby's sex by 18-20 weeks depending on the baby's position. but you will definetly have more ultrasounds...at least one more. there is a great book....it is called YOUR PREGNANCY...WEEK BY WEEK i forget who the author is and currently has a sister who is pg and i cannot find the book....it goes into great detail about exactly what your body is doing and how the baby is developing every single week....it is a wonderful book kelly m

Guest guest
, I hate to be contradictory...but it's not uncommon at all to have only one ultrasound during a normal pregnancy, and there is a growing trend to eliminate them as a routine test altogether. Often they will only repeat an ultrasound if there is a problem or concerns about growth, etc. So for her to get only one ultrasound, between 18-20 weeks is very normal. If the baby is in position, they are often able to tell the sex of the child, but of course, we all know someone who has banked on the ultrasound pics and been surprised LOL F. Guest guest
i guess i never heard of such a thing...or maybe it is an insurance issue....my insurance covers 3 ultrasounds per pregnancy and additional ones if necessary...my ob does an internal one at 8 weeks to make sure there is a heartbeat...pretty cool. i know of many people who don't get their first one till 12 weeks and never knew their baby had already died. then he does the 2nd one at 20 weeks, that is the one with all the different pics and the specialist does that ultrasound...then he does another one at around week36 to estimate the weight of the baby. so maybe i am just lucky....but i feel much more comfortable having more than one...they can check many different things on the US(heartbeat, heart function, brain size, sex, organs, etx) me personally at 7-8 months was having de12calcification of the placenta that had to be closely watched...now i had no symtoms or felt anything going om, but it was. now what if something had happened because the US was not done or covered? ugh...i hate to even think of that. i am glad i had 3. i am not trying to sound rude or anything, but i hope that it doesn't become routine to do just 1. kelly m

Guest guest
Some doctors don't do ANY ultrasounds. It isn't a " requirement " , really. And yes, some of us know all too well how wrong the sex prediction can be sometimes... hehe K > From: kellys5pt0@... > Reply-To: OSSG-pregnant > Date: Sat, 28 Sep 2002 13:32:43 EDT > To: OSSG-pregnant > Subject: Re: sex of the baby??? > > well i would hope that there would be more ultrasounds during your > pregnancy...to stop having them at 19 weeks is not normal...and alot of > doctors can tell the baby's sex by 18-20 weeks depending on the baby's > position. but you will definetly have more ultrasounds...at least one more. > > there is a great book....it is called YOUR PREGNANCY...WEEK BY WEEK > i forget who the author is and currently has a sister who is pg and i cannot > find the book....it goes into great detail about exactly what your body is > doing and how the baby is developing every single week....it is a wonderful > book > > kelly m > > >
Guest guest
Yes, I MUST respond........(Dee in MD, peeking in again.....). My OB was PI(double S)ed with me for getting a physicians assistant to schedule me for another ultrasound. One......, just like you said, they would like to have as few, if probably not any, ultrasounds as possible. He also took it totally personal that I would question his experience and expertise, yada, yada, yada... I was only concerned because it was my first child...not to mention after wls, and I was losing when I should have been gaining. He never had any concerns, and I didn't know whether or not he was familiar/comfortable/complaisant, with wls patients, even though I fully informed them of my surgery. I also questioned the measurements, because of my excess skin, after he assured me that everything was fine, and that he could tell that I was measuring right on target, etc. Anyway.....as it turns out, he was right on target........knew what he was doing, and very offended that I questioned him.(I still love him :-) Oh........I got my extra ultrasound, which gave me some " peace of mind " . Guest guest
Well.....I guess that's what my OB(a " seasoned professional " ) and others are trying to say, is that's it's not really necessary.(extra x-rays, etc.) I know exactly how you feel......again, I felt the same, and was not satisfied until I had another ultrasound. Also, again......it was my first. I had NO clue as to what to expect/feel etc. Like you, I felt like " hey, my insurance will cover it, so...... " . Also, I felt it was some security in having it. However, now.....in retrospect, at that point.......if anything had showed, what would I have done. I mean really, what could I have done? But........if a positive ultrasound helps to bring about peace within your live......and insurance covers it/or you are willing to pay for it(which was my stance/argument) GIVE THAT ULTRASOUND UP! Honestly and sincerely, sending positive blessings and vibes. Please don't worry, and expect a miracle(that's what ALL babies are!) Dee (land.....peeking in from time to time.)
