Go get it June. You'll realise why so many sing the praises of resurf. Don't

hold back. Choose your OS with care - if he does not do resurfacing find

someone who does. You probably know all this anyway so I'll stop blabbing on.

Re: What was your first sign of Arthritis in the hip?

I started getting very bad range of motion and some pain in the

hip in my early twentys. I was diagnosed by a chiropractor 12

years ago in my early thirtys. I was told by an OS to come back in

20 years for a THR and that there was nothing else I could do. I

started taking glucosomine sulphate five years ago and I'm still

walking. I guess mine has just been really slow to progress. I

am very thin so maybe that helped. I am 44 and was planning

on waiting at least 10 more years for a THR. Now that I found out

about resurfacing I want to get it done before it is too late.

Ouch!. But not totally relevant. My friend had a resurface in 2001, has now

had an ouch in the other hip. Scared person. But its like, deep pain inside

the hip itself.

Re: What was your first sign of Arthritis in the hip?

I believe the first sign was a red 92 camaro plowing into the car I

was riding in on december 1st 2000. Yes I remember now...

:)

(OA in right hip caused by Trauma sustained when hit by drunk driver)

Mine started with groin pain-thought I'd injured myself in a lead climbing fall.

Felt like a pulled/torn tendon. Then the hip started popping and cracking. The

real pain didn't start till after the diagnosis. Went to bone on bone within 2

years.

Mine came on suddenly about 13-14 years ago and was a pain in the

groin on the bad side. I have idiopathic AVN, not OA or RA. I

lasted those extra 12-13 years (mostly pain free or very low pain)due

to a marvelously effective core decompression done by Dr. Corn, long

since retired. I read recently that core decompressions are only

about 48% successful. For me it was a true miracle, and gave me at

least ten years of playing hockey, etc. with my own hip. I don't

know if other people should consider trying them before SHR or not.

> What was your first sign of Arthritis in the hip?

1. Severe pain in knee for approx. 9 months and not being able to get out of

chairs without knee pain (hardly any hip discomfort).

2. Having to lift my leg to get into the car.

3. Also whenever we went out walking I couldn't lift my leg to get over

stiles!
