Guest guest
I wonder why the hospitals can't lock the boards up in a shed, closet, room, or whatever. Then, when an EMS wants in the room a designated hospital official enters said storage with EMS and ensures they only take what is theirs. Sometimes the simplest solutions aren't used. This is something that should be closely monitored as backboards seem to grow legs and walk off. It doesn't matter if you paint or engrave the board with your service's name, it still ends up missing. With that said, I also believe that the hospital should be held more accountable for the equipment left at their facility. There should be some sort of tracking so that these boards can find their way home. D. Stone > Jim: > > Thanks for that notice. Guest guest
How do you handle 'community' boards. In our area, SETTRAC puts about 1,000 boards into the system per year with the hope of minimizing the use of boards with screws, pins or metel runners. You may have seen them... slime green with SETTRAC embossed on the board. We've seen them in Austin, San , Dallas-Fort Worth. These boards do not belong to any one service, but belong to 'all'. You leave a board, feel free to pick up a SETTRAC board to replace it. If all of the RACS and EMS providers adopt and participate in the same type of program, the backboard issue would resolve itself. Guest guest
Hey... Sitting here thumbing through these emails and I just had a " crazy " idea: Why don't each EMS agency pay DSHS an extra $500 for each ambulance they have re-license every other year....then DSHS takes all this money and buys backboards sending 5 for each license ambulance to each agency in the state (and the extras because they could surely get more than 5 for $500...) go to the hospitals... Then when any state EMS ambulance goes into an ER, they simply drop off the backboard with the patient and pick up another... There is a single state of Texas backboard color/design and then all backboards in Texas become the property of all EMS agencies....since each agency buys 5 for each truck every other year...there should cease to be a shortage.... I know...what a " crazy " idea.... Oh well...back to the turkey.... Dudley Re: Backboards @ baylor grapevine I guess it would be to easy to use a bring one take one type policy? Crosby EMT-B Re: Backboards @ baylor grapevine It sounds like we need some legislation on this issue. Something requiring the hospital to return the device(s) upon their completed use and decontamination would be along the lines of my thoughts. When I graduated high school I went to work for a local hospital in shipping / receiving. It was not unusual for us to ship backboards and other devices back to EMS agencies and FRO's if they remained in the ER for an extended period of time. Guest guest
Jim, I just bought 20 for less than $2000...and if you bought 5500 every other year I bet that cost would go down even farther.... The problem is to get people to not hoard them (and Dr. B's idea is a good one for that) then you can help that...plus after a couple of cycles and their are 16000 backboards in circulation...take as many as your unit can hold.
