Guest guest
Hey Gang, As I was pondering and procrastinating about making the dreaded call to make the appointment with my endo, she emailed me wondering how I was. She has suggested I could use thyrogen this time. She said that it was more expensive but I would not have to go hypo. I have no insurance and I have to pay cash up front for all my care I think I would rather go hypo and save some money. lol Since this will be my first scan without a surgery I think I might be better informed going hypo to be sure it is all gone. If I am reading the post about thyrogen, it is not as accurate as a regular scan. The scan I had on November 2 of last year was done over two weeks after the administration of I-131 so nothing showed up. I think they waited too long to do the scan. Should I request I be set up for the scan 24 or 48 hours later? I am calling today to schedule my bloodwork so lookout gang I will be going hypo and writing to you constantly. Guest guest
So now I'm thinking I should go hypo so I don't think so much! Tell me if I am off the beaten path or if this even makes sense. This is regarding thyrogen. If in the future most of us end up on thyrogen-can using thyrogen inhibit the growth of thyca, so we could end up seeing a lower incidence of thyroid cancer recurrences. See what I mean? Since for some of us our tg's remain undetectable until we are hypo and in some cases thycans need to us thyrogen instead of withdrawal because when they do withdraw there tg's sky rocket. or Could it lead to thyca growing unchecked since it is not as accurate, leading to worse case senarios(sp) of thyca. Guess what my endo told me? He said not to go home and think too much. Laurel-maybe frost bite of the brain in Ohio

Guest guest
Laurel, The doctor's office will call the insurance company for you. The only reason I had to call mine was because of a big mix up between my old job and new job, both had the same insurance. You shouldn't have to worry about talking with your insurance company at all. The doctor's office will do it all. The thyrogen pharmacy may call you for some information. They did call me. If I can be of any more help, please let me know. Take care! land *Currently on LID to go for WBS February 14th. *Pathology report for biopsy that was done on my knee...benign!! *Thyroid Ultrasound (June 01) 6 nodules found; 3 on right and 3 on left *Uptake Scan (end June 01) nodules found to be solid *FNB (October 01) suspicious for cancer *TT (Dec 01) papillary cancer, spreading to lymph nodes in neck and muscle *RAI (Jan 02) *Levoxyl-175mcg (Mon.-Friday); 200 mcg (Sat. & Sun.) Guest guest
HI Laurel. I don't know the costs for Thyrogen but I do know my previous endo tried to go that route but my insurance would not cover it. I have RI BCBS Healthmate Coast to Coast which has covered everything else. I have also heard that Thyrogen is not as reliable as the LID and being off of meds (especially for the first scan -- thanks ! -- so (in my case anyway) I wasn't too disappointed. " Easier " usually comes with some caveats. Anne > It's me again. Guess what's on my mind. I tried to look this info up in the archieves but can not find anything. WHat is the cost of Thyrogen. Is it covered under medical or pharmaceuticals. I also remember people saying they payed $200 or $300 in copays. Do I remember correctly? > > Good night. > Laurel > >
