Guest guest
This makes me so upset. It is not his business what people do with his products, nor it is his place to convince you to buy something that HE KNOWS is not allowed on SCD. I would call him and demand a refund based on your son's bad reaction to it. You are not the first to be persuaded into buying something other than the Acidophilus. That is why there is a statement on pecanbread.com that says to only buy the Acidophilus powder. Plus, the thing that really annoys me is that the big scoop IS FOR the YOGURT. The small scoop is for the acidophilus powder. So, when you called asking for the small scoop for the yogurt starter, he should have just quickly told you that you have the right spoon already. Please do not continue to give that blend to your son. And use approximately 1/2 scoop (the larger one) to continue making your yogurt. Guest guest
Do you think it could be die-off from a larger dose of probiotic? Probiotics can do that particularly if not started slowly. l.
Guest guest
I tried a combo strain probiotic (with bifidus) with my son, who has colitis, before we did SCD but it always aggrivated his symptoms. It was always frustrating to me because I knew that probiotics were supposed to help. Now on SCD, the acidophilus only does not aggrivate his symptoms, but helps him for sure. I get really annoyed with hearing about how Harry tries to push stuff on SCDers that he knows isn't allowed. If he's not careful, his products will no longer be recommended and he'll lose a lot of business. Grrr! Robbie Custom Probiotics My son, 11, dx of Asperger's syndrome, also has the leaky gut and lots of food sensitivities. We see a DAN Dr. out of state who doesn't support the SCD, but we choose to be on it anyway! This is the third diet plan for my son in approx a year now, beginning with GFCF, my choice after reading info on it, and second diet was a 4- day rotation diet per the DAN Dr. avoiding almost everything you can buy at a local grocery store. My choice, was to switch him over to SCD after reading the book...and he's been successful since late September when we began. We stay casein free on the diet, and therefore, we make the nut milk yogurt. Anyway, I called Harry at Custom Probiotics to ask for a small scoop to measure my yogurt starter rather than the larger scoop that came with it. He asked why I was making my son the yogurt, etc. and I explained the autism and leaky gut were our major issues. So he talked me into buying a 4 strain probiotic powder to give my son. The powder contains: L. Rhamnosus, L. Salivarius, B. Bifidum and B. Infantis. Within a half hour of giving my son his first dose, he came down with " D " and it went on through the next morning. Now, after he's improving, I'm beginning to think it was a tummy bug going around that hit my son at just the same time....and not blame the new probiotic powder. Yet, I'm still nervous about giving him another try with it. When I bought it, I figured I could take it all if my son could not handle it or shouldn't really be having it. Has any other parent been sold this powder for their child, and if so, could you please share your results, good or bad? And also, I know that the book supports the use of acidophilus, but I'm really confused as to why no other strains are allowed or why they could be harmful to give to my son??? Is this possibly going to be beneficial to give to my son, or should I completely keep him off of it? I love reading the messages in this group. Thank you in advance for any advice anyone can give. , 11, SCD 3 months+ For information on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, please read the book _Breaking the Vicious Cycle_ by Elaine Gottschall and read the following websites: http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info and http://www.pecanbread.com
Guest guest
Thank you to all of you who have replied to my probiotics 4-strain from Custom P. Sometimes all of this gets so overwhelming...but I am convinced after hearing from you that I won't try it on Josh again. I'll just use some of it so it's not a complete waste. I would much rather have a refund! So, has anyone been successful in asking for a refund from him? I'm curious.... I would warn anyone I knew from now on, that when calling to order from him, ask for just this one product, and refuse anything else he tries to sell you! Since we are on the topic, he bashed the use of honey and ripened bananas in SCD. He said I really needed to take a look at the Candida diet, and gave me a book for free. When looking at the recipes in the back of the book, I see that there is no way I could get myself, let alone my 9 and 11 year old boys to eat that way! They'd starve themselves first. The Candida diet allows potatoes and such that goes against SCD, and personally I think the science behind the SCD is what sold me the most! Josh is still holding his tummy and complaining of a belly ache, even though we've had 2 days of " D " free. Just not forming again like they should be. Tomorrow is going to be a day of jello, chicken broth and electrolyte drink only....and try to recover from this, whether it is a flu bug, or probiotics??? Kind of disappointed me when he discouraged the use of honey and fruit on the phone call. I knew I'd need the support of other SCD pros like yourselves! Thanks a million! Guest guest
Hi , The same happened to me. Bifidum bacteria set off a terrible flare- up. I have done far better sticking to the bacterial strains that Elaine recommends for probiotics and yogurt . Guest guest
Hi, . Epsom salts baths helped Dakota with die-off and the stomach pains caused from illegals. Maybe this would help to give Josh some comfort, as well. Poor little guy. I am so sorry that all of you had to go through this. It is so exasperating.
