iherb.com is cheaper. They have 100 capsules in the bottle for $29

I haven't used them yet but I intend to, its $20 flat shipping fee to

Canada but if you order larger amounts you get a discount on the total

Standard shipping and handling is only $6.25 anywhere in the US (I

called to check if it applied outside of this area!), and free

shipping for $175 orders. They use UPS and FedEx only.

I have ordered TONS of stuff for my Jimmy from NEEDS....it only took

two to four days to get everything, but admittedly, that could be

because they are local to me (Syracuse, NY area!). What I love about

them is that anything I have ever needed, whether they normally carry

it or not, they will get for me. There is a local Natur-Tyme store

that you can go to here that is affiliated. I started using NEEDS

because they do home delivery of the same stuff found in the store,

plus have even more selection! Definitely order the free

catalog....it's the size of a book, and explains quite a bit about

the products!

I'm sorry to sound like a walking billboard for them, but they have

gone out of their way to accomodate me, especially when I told them

the vitamins and supplements were for my son....they are very

interested in and dedicated to the whole homeopathic, non-

pharmaceutical approach, so the Ketogenic Diet naturally peaks their

interest!!!! They also have an awesome lady named Carol who gives

great free nutritional advice along the way....prior to the diet, she

was the most successful at finding ways to reduce Jimmy's

seizures....more so than our local neuro.

I have yet to order the L-Carnosine, specifically, but am looking

into it since I have seen so many of you post about it's positive

effects. So far, I cannot find any real negative side effects when

researching it. I, too, like the NOW brand....I have gotten a lot of

their stuff; even when I did the Atkins Diet a few years ago!!!!

I started Rohan on carnosine today. We tried it two

years ago and gave up because I thought it increased

partial sz for him. Another mum reported the same thing.

However I can't be sure and also things have changed

since then so I thought of giving it another try.

The bottles say one to two per day and you can order 90 days worth (this

is Health Canada talking). Which means you could only order two bottles

(of the 100) at a time to be safe it would get through without problems.

But I think I posted before about the other options, right, letter from

dr or special access program

Oh oh, Saro......aren't you talking carnitine?? Isn't that what worsened

Rohan's seizures a few years ago?? Of course you know better than me,

he's your kid LOL but I could have swore it was carnitine. I was talking

It was definitely Carnosine. I ordered some Now Brand ones

off their website and used a few days worth of one bottle.

With canitine their was an initial improvement of seizures.

It increased his ketones a bit. He said he didn't have even

'small ones' in school. Rohan's levels were very low before

we started giving carnitine about 3 yrs ago. Then stopped

when the levels were up (in fact, too high). After that we

used it again a few times with good results. However last yr

or the year before, his pH also increased with carnitine and

he had screaming sz. That's when we stopped that.

I think it 's Laurie who found partials with Carnosine.

Yes you did post about the other options. Planning on having a talk with the

neuro in April, but not sure how open to this idea she will be. Do you have any

information on the special access program? or should my neuro know about this?

Is this the same as EDS status on medications such as Mike's MCT oil?

Your neuro should know, I think its used a lot. Information is in the

back of the CPS (the dr's drug book), one of the

appendices...sheesh....I know the info must be somewhere on this desk

but I was doing income tax most of yesterday....need I say more?? LOL

Not sure what program it is you use for MCT oil because we have never

used it. I know those that do get it at one of the hospitals here but

how that process works or what its called I don't know

He was on 1500mg a day when we stopped. Two days

later Rohan had partial sz all day and was very spaced

out, even his speech was slurry. I thought at the time that

it was a sort of withdrawal thing from carnosine. A few

days later he started Diamox and things were OK for a

few weeks.

This time I started him on 500mg twice and the next day

1000mg twice which is far faster than we'd normally

introduce or wean anything. However I wanted to see whether

we'd see any good results. On the evening of the 2nd day he said

he felt his head was spinning around and that's the first time

he'd felt such a thing. I was wary of continuing. The next day

happened to be a sz-day (pattern of 3 free days and then a

sz day) but he started with sleep sz that night and the next day

before breakfast he had a sz that continued into a partial. Ofcourse

I wasn't going to continue. That happened to be a rather bad sz-day.

So I guess that the end of our experiment ! Even if carnosine

has nothing to do with it - too scared to try again.

I must say Rohan's reaction to somethings are not the usual.
