I do know that there are supplements of 1000iu of vitamin D. I was dx mildly Vitamin-D deficient before and after surgery for parathyroid adenoma (dx Primary HypERparathyroidism with osteoporosis - pre-menopause). It was prescribed after surgery to correct the deficiency and improve calcium absorption, along with Fosamax for the osteoporosis. I don't take calcium supplements. I'm fairly careful with my diet. Vitamin-D deficiency is uncommon here btw it is not one of those countries where we don't see the sun for months :-) and I don't feel I know the story, whether it's temporary and related to the PHPT or what. > This > wouldn't be helpful for a hypoparathyroidism patient, as we take the > equivalent of 50,000 i.u. I'd be happy to hear if you think there's something wrong here. As I wrote earlier, I was told at the time that it was in any case something that is being prescribed in thyca patients (to help protect against bone loss) - but I haven't come across it on this list. > Call me, Will do when I'm next over there!
