Guest guest
Hi , My brother and his wife (neither of which have ever had any cancer) are in the process of adopting. I was concerned that my thyca history would have an impact because they ask for health histories of family members. I was also concerned that it would have an impact because they listed me as the guardian if something should ever happen to them. My brother told me to just be honest about it - I think I was more paranoid about it than he was!! Anyway, they were approved and are now waiting... But I wanted to tell you that the social worker (or whatever they are) told my sister-in-law (who was an emotional wreck because she was sooo afraid they would find some reason not to approve them) that they don't generally turn people down unless there's some major reason (i.e., you're an ax murderer; you have a rat infested house; etc.) Don't worry about the thyca thing - you had thyca and were treated for it and you're in good health now - you don't need to go into speicific details about possible recurrences ten or twenty years down the road - you could get hit by a bus (god forbid) way before then! Live your life and dream your dreams - you may have lost your thyroid but you have not lost your right to be a mom - go for it!!! - Gayle North Salem, NY TT 1990 RAI (125) 3/15/02 Next Scan: 3/2003 > Hi all- > > I was wondering if anyone on this list had any experience with > adopting kids. > I would like to adopt in the next couple of years, but I am kind of > worried. > I have been told you need a clean bill of health and I am not sure > what they > will think about this " never completely cured " thing.
