Guest guest
I have been able to hear static by using the monitor earphones. It doesn't tell me what my son hears, but it does tell me something's wrong - usually the microphone. So yesterday when he got home from school we sat and had lunch and he was still wearing the implant. Typically would throw his implant off the second he walked through the door, so this was a major breakthrough. He finished eating and then signed that the implant was broke and he wanted it off. When we signed no to him, he was insisting that the implant was broke so I checked the implant and the battery was dead! He is definitely benefiting from the implant to let us know for the first time, that the battery was dead. However he was not willing to put it back on for the rest of the day. Is there a battery that would last longer? All we have been using is generic batteries from Costco. Also has his 30 month review this Friday, I don't know that I want them to re-map him again since he is doing so well. One more question, is there anyway of knowing exactly what is hearing with the implant on, ie: static > etc? >Thanks! >Tina mom to age 4 nucleus 24 June of 2001 > >

Guest guest
Tina, I don't know if there is a way to find out what he is hearing with the implant except to ask him what it sounds like and he is probably too young to put it into words. You should try asking him if it sounds different then before he fell with it, and ask how. He may not be able to tell you how but it's worth a try. Also maybe you could get more info by having your audi give him a word recognition audiogram with it on and see how he does how much he understands. Has he ever had one? Particularly before his accedent. If he had one before his accedent you could compare the two. I think that is probably your best bet though as far as finding out how well he hears with it on.
