Guest guest
I used to find the same thing . I don't take too much notice of the results though as I rely on the Medisense kit for ketones. And I think the high ketone levels that has can affect the results of the other tests on the multistix anyway. Guest guest
, Yes, that makes sense. I just wanted to make sure I was understanding what you were describing. I have no idea why that is happening, though. It definitely doesn't happen to me. If I get 40 on the ketostix at 15 sec. I get 40 on the multistix at 40 sec. If I were to read the multi at 15 sec I would get a slightly lower value. If I read the keto at 40 secs., I would get a higher value. The sticks are " calibrated " so to speak to be read at the appropriate time. The amount of reagent impregnated into the square is actually different on each stick. If ketones were really high, the reaction would speed up, so maybe in that case you would get the same result at the same time. The reason the timing is different on the multi's vs. the single sticks is... are you ready for this.... the companies think that trained laboratory technologists aren't capable of reading more than one test at a time, so they " spread out " the timing on the multi sticks. When I was in college, the multistix were not available to the public because an " untrained " person couldn't possibly be able to read them accurately--LOL!! Ketostix and diastix were available by Rx only to people with diabetes whom their doctors judged capable of checking their own urine. We've actually come a long way, baby!! Guest guest
Jill, You are correct. The higher the ketone level, the quicker the reaction would progress so you might see results that correlate at 15 sec, when, actually they shouldn't. And, the presence of ketones does affect some of the other test squares on the multistix. The higher the ketones, the more the potential effect. Which is one reason to use just the single ketostix for daily testing. Cammie > > Hi Cammie, > > Yes, both my multistix and single keto-stix are made by Bayer.
