Guest guest
Hi Arlene, Welcome to the group. I was 55 when I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer in 1999. I'll be happy to correspond and share experiences. We have people of all ages in these groups...Recently heard from someone whose 4-year-old niece has thyroid cancer, and from a relative by marriage, age 84, also just diagnosed. Guest guest
I was 63 when my annual fna of my 20 year old lump revealed suspicious cells. Passed 64 before my surgery, a completion thyroidectomy, which confirmed cancer. More than thirty years ago I had a partial because there was a cyst wrapped around the left lobe and they could not remove the cyst without removing the lobe. I assume you are brain-fogged because you are not taking any thryoid med in preparation for a radioactive iodine treatment???? If so, please rethink working and, particularly, driving. Helen, TT 2/02 RAI 4/02 Scan 5/02 HP Scan 12/02, clean

Guest guest
Hi Arlene, Welcome to this informative and helpful list! My story seems similar to yours. I'm 54, was diagnosed in Ocotober with papillary cancer, follicular varient. TT was November 13 and now I have completed 106 mCi RAI 2 weeks ago on Dec. 19. I'm sorry you are having voice problems. I think your reading here will give you hope for improvement. I'm finding that recovery of voice, energy, and outlook are not a steady thing, but an experience of ups and downs. My thinking is improving since going back on synthroid about 10 days ago. I've missed about 2 1/2 weeks of work, and worked office duty only for another 6-7 days. Cancer has it's impact! Are you scheduled for RAI? You sound like you are taking our 'good cancer' in stride, so I think your attitude is working for you. For many of the people posting here, physical effects are moderate and life can go on without major adjustments. May we both be among that group! Guest guest
Yes, Yes, Yes - I was 58 when I had a TT, pap cancer and RAI. I am doing great now (60)and had a clean scan in Nov. 01. I will have another scan in the Spring 2003. I was off work a week for the TT and left work one week before my RAI. Because it was Christmas I had a couple of weeks off extra and NEEDED IT before I got started on my thyroid meds. For the scan in the Fall of 2001 I was off the last week before scan and went back right after that. I have not had any complications and hope it stays like that. Once you get started on some thyroid meds you will start feeling better, but it takes a few days to kick in. I really feel for the people on this site that have had a hard time. a TT 10/25/00for PapCa.,(Nodule 3.5cm) RAI 102-12/18/00, WBS 11/01-Clean a To: <Thyca > Sent: Thursday, January 02, 2003 7:54 AM Subject: " Older " Female - Recently Diagnosed > Hi, > > Whew!
