the bye-bye arm, yup, me too. i started buying mens t shirts because

the arms are a bit longer and cover to the elbow. i dont understand

why insurance co's are so stubborn on this subject- at my consult i

got the impression it was simple, just a slice right about where a

csection scar sits, then they pull the skin down and stitch. i dont

see it as necessarily being strictly a cosmetic issue, i get a very

open rash, and have 2 rx's for that rash. plus with some of the

things they will pay for? a quick story for you- i worked in the

office of a cab company for awhile, and there was a woman who needed

methadone. the insurance company paid DAILY not only for the drink

but also for her cab from home to the clinc 35 minutes away each way

ROUND TRIP, with the meter running while she was in the clinic. my

question is- why does a heroine addict deserve services, but not a

woman who has lost weight? i have even tried looking around to

donate the skin, but around here the burn centers buy from a company

or something.

they do deny first time automatically? nice, good to know. i do

suffer from a lot of back pain. can that be blamed on all that skin

hanging and pulling from the front? thanx for the info!

no, i was being a dummy and used the rxs to get rid of the rash, so

doc only got pic of the stomach and skin. i will definitely get some

pics of the rash and see if they are acceptable for the insurance.

thanx for the advice!

i dread the thought of even inquiring about the cost of paying cash

good tip with telling the nurse at beginning of appt. never realized

doc doesnt necessarily write it all down. i do have a tendency to

just say i am there for refills and to just " check on a few things " .

very good to know. i have an appt tomorrow for refills on rxs so i

will definitely make some noise about the belly while i am there.

i do live near boston, so we do have teaching hospitals. i'll have

to check on that too. thanx!

Don't get me started on fair...

I was without work, without insurance, without money, without meds and without a thyroid gland.

I was told by three counties and the state and the clinic that 'First Call For Help' sent me to that:

The money is needed for people who REALLY need it...

Ready? Here's the list that I have compiled from my visits of the folks that DESERVE the medical assistance:

Moms with kids (to qualify for this, since I've never had kids, it was suggested to me that I go out and get pregnant, it would be even better, since I'm white, to have a minority child. All I had to do was bring in a slip from the doc with my due date and they'd cover everything. One comment that I made when hearing this the first time caused the woman behind the counter to inform me that I had a bad attitude. The second one I lit into.... I told her that if I had money to see a doc to get a pregnancy test I wouldn't be there begging for thyroid meds!)

People with STDs. AIDS is an especially good one, but they will cover anyone with any STD.

Drunks, recovering or active.

Addicts, recovering or using.

People with prison records.

Pretty much every one of them told me that not having a thyroid gland was not life threatening and it was no big deal... one added that if I did drop dead, this was in response to my comment about them covering me when I dropped dead, anyway... she said not to drop dead on a city street or the city would have to cover my burial.

I called around, oh, probably two years ago.... and got the same thing... I'm white, no kids, no addictions, no STDs and I've never been to prison so I'm not eligible for anything. Too bad I paid in all those taxes when I worked all that hellacious over time for all those years.... considering that even though I paid all that in that I'd never be eligible for anything....

.... thinking happy thoughts, thinking happy thoughts, thinking happy thoughts.... hmmm that's not working.. .all I can think of is using my crutches to beat the doc that told me nothing was wrong with me and told me to go home... even though I was already in thyroid storm.....

I don't know what state you live in, but I find it hard to believe that they told you to go out and have a minority child. This is a racist statement! I don't think you get more benefits or any faster if your child is a minority.

I am really offended by the post below. What state do you live in? Are you serious--people that have been to prison get no special perks from social services organizations. People with STD's might get treatment FOR THE STD from a clinic, but you can't go to a social service organization and qualify for medicaid or health benefits just because you have an STD. Please, please tell me what state this is in.

I called around, oh, probably two years ago.... and got the same thing... I'm white, no kids, no addictions, no STDs and I've never been to prison so I'm not eligible for anything. i didnt write that last post, but i am in massachusetts and i know

that if you are seeking help with housing, like rental assistance

programs, that if you have a child that is a minority, you are

considered to be at a higher priority level and will get help faster.

i have nothing against anyone's race, religion, etc etc, but fair is

fair. we all want to be treated equally, but then there goes your

government picking and choosing on the basis of race etc. it really is

a bunch of crap

i cant believe that happened to you! the level of ignorance blows me

away. seriously, if you are in a position where you have a

legitimate, and by the way NOT SELF INFLICTED condition that

requires regular appointments, labs, meds, surgeries, etc- why would

one not qualify for help? i feel that if it is a financial strain

for someone, then help them! i pay out of pocket just for my

synthroid and some months it hurts my wallet! maybe when seeking

help one should bring along a detailed printout of the effects of

not taking meds after thyroidectomy or with a thyroid condition. now

i'm pissed! lol thyroid related illness is in my opinion one of the

most understood ever. but then if we cant get the docs to fully

understand what we go through why would anyone else???

by the way, beating that doc IS a happy thought... i may have to

borrow that thought for a few

Yep, that's what she told me.... I don't happen to think any ethnic group is a 'minority' although I don't have a whole lot of patience for 'cliques'. An extreme of what I consider 'cliques' would be street gangs.

Oh well... such is life, right?

Minnesota.... and I don't know if this is the way it's supposed to be... it's just what I was told when I went in... all the people that 'screened' me had the same attitude, in all three counties that I was living in during times I was without insurance and couldn't get thyroid meds.

Minnesota.... and I don't know if this is the way it's supposed to be... it's just what I was told when I went in... all the people that 'screened' me had the same attitude, in all three counties that I was living in during times I was without insurance and couldn't get thyroid meds.
