Guest guest
Barb: My husband had ascites for about 9 months. He would have paracentesis (needle aspiration of the abdominal fluid) every month or so. Although he did not look forward to the procedure, he did feel better for several weeks as a result of it. Sometimes the ascites does not come back as soon as it did with my husband's. After having one bad experience with it, with a " beginner " , I insisted that he have the procedure done by a full fledged professional with a lot of experience with it. This made a big difference. They would usually take out about 3-4 liters of fluid. One time they took out too much and, as a result, his blood pressure began to drop, so they then had to give him IV hydration for a couple of hours before he could come home. All the best, Amie
Guest guest
Ian, I am sorry but I have never heard of this dilema. My suggestion is to ask the medical staff or your mom's doctors exactly what it is they are talking about. Stay strong and I know how scared you are. Guest guest
, Here's an excellent site for medical info:It's a medical professionals site and some of the stuff gets kind of detailed but there's an excellent encyclopedia, drug info, lab vlues & interpretations, etc. The search feature works quite well also. www.fpnotebook.com/G137.htm The G137 should take you directly to the page on ascites. If for some reason you can't do the extended address, just go to the main page and on the square to list Book:type in gastroenterology;Chapter:exam;and Page:ascites The page is in outline format with a definition, symptoms, causes, medical tests, etc. Hope this helps.
