We are new into this switch and a bit nervous about making to many changes.

We are not getting to creative with meals yet. We are keeping carbs at about 3

grams a meals. All we really rotate is the different meats and different

flavors of cheese. The only real treat we are using is the low carb milk,

chocolate

is of course Kya's favorite. I am still making ice cream out of heavy cream.

I just don't weigh everything I just pour approx. 1/2 cup into a small freezer

container and add a dash of cinnamon and drop of vanilla and sweetener. Then

toss in about 3-4 tablespoons of oil after freezing about 45 minutes. I know

about how many carbs the cream I am using has. I will use this as a meal carb

or as a snack. we have found Kya needs a little added fat to keep ketones high

for best control. Let me know if you find something that brings in some

excitement.

Nowhere near a transition to Atkins here Barbara, so no food tips from

this quarter, but just wanted to say good luck with it all, and I hope that

Jake responds well,

Jake's meal plans, read Atkins and get into our keto neuro. As of Friday

I've basically stopped weighing food for Jake. He is eating the same types

of meals as on keto, but I'm eyeballing the amounts of food and estimating

carbs. Keeping him at about 3g of carb per meal. So far, no major changes

in seizures, which I'll take as good news. He's getting fewer veggies and a

few small bites of cracker w/ each meal. Meds and supplements are in

applesauce.

are you using? I'm staying away from fruit for now, and just giving Jake

eggs and chicken for protein, butter or mayo with them, a small amount of

veggie, plus cheese, nuts and crackers. I haven't had him drink any cream

or oil as he usually does.

things at once as I'm still crossing my fingers that he remains stable.

Dear Barb,

If you look on the Atkins website you will find lists of the acceptable foods.

Basically, we did alot of meats and cheese (which you have to watch), veggies

(lots of broccoli) and homemade ice creams with cream. We also started using

Almond flour and splenda to make cookies which LOVED and they were

really low carb. I think 2.5 g. Now, this is just my science here but I alos

did some meals that were more like the 2:1 ratio without weighing. Like we did

french toast dipped in egg/cream and then pan fried. Then I would use butter

for syrup. My logic was to add a the fat to make it ketogenic and it worked for

us.

Also, nuts are ok on the diet and jellos. There is a low carb recipe website

that I really like and once you get comfortable adding new things and testing

how Jake reacts you might find some good things. The almond flour is a real

treat b/c it makes cookies like real cookies.

Good luck and keep us posted

PA we didn't do the Atkins products b/c would have adverse

behavioral reactions to it

I know you do not want to make too many changes

When you do--the doors open to many opportunities to kid-friendly meals using

the Atkins products--counting Net Carbs

I am still in the very early transition stages--and still doing a keto-ratio

but introducing Atkins foods, counting Net carbs

VERY limited fruits and veggies--to keep glucose levels low

So far, she remains in ketosis and seizures unchanged

Hope to be scale-free and ratio free too!!

Atkins has breakfast bars and granola bars--but these have too many

ingredients and these would not be the first thing to try!

The Atkins ice cream cups and ice cream bars are pretty keto friendly with a

high fat content and low net carbs and low protein--

Even whipped with cream--is a wonderful shake

The Atkins breads and bagels can be used for --grilled cheese, bagels (1/2 a

bagel)-with butter and cream cheese mixed, or peanut butter and butter mixed

Sandwiches!!

Keto and Atkins Pasta--for extra fat--use olive oil and spices instead of

sauce--or use the carb free sauces on the market

Pasta and meatballs

You can buy boxed pasta with pre-mixed sauces--but, again, lots of

ingredients

Keto and Alkins cereals and cream

Pancakes and waffles made with Atkins products or use Almond flour instead of

the usual " eggs "

Breakfast meatballs--made with beef, sausage, cheese(cheddar or any

flavor),eggs or egg beaters and butter--all my kids love the cheesy taste--and

baked

meatballs can be made crunchy with added ground pork rinds & /or pecans & /or

crumbled bacon

Creamy meatballs--beef,eggs,spices-baked and pour over a creamy sauce of

sour cream,butter

Atkins and Keto have " bread Crumbs " --make a low carb meatloaf--or use low

carb bread toasted and crumbled

beef or turkey meatloaf

There are lots of deserts, muffins , cookies etc--

Goodluck

Happy cooking!

Best to you and Jake

Sandi

KETO--KETOGENICS--ATKINS--CARB SENSE

There are sooo many products on the market

Guess you still have to be a label reader

Some have too many ingredients

Some are higher in carbs & /or protein

They all vary

But a nice variety--when you are ready for a " change "

I am going ever-so-slowly
