Guest guest
Hi, Joan - Molasses is one of those items that is a great puzzlement in terms of the LID. You might not believe how much cyber space has been devoted to our discussions on this. As a group, we have never been to figure why it's not allowed on a low iodine diet; it's basically sugar, and it doesn't seem to be high in iodine, nor does it appear to be goitrogenic (which would interfere with iodine uptake). The LID on the ThyCa web page has been changed from banning all molasses to banning only sulfured molasses, which jives with the NIH version. Following these guidelines, I used to discourage the use of molasses on the LID, but now discourage only sulfured molasses (though I still don't know why that's an issue). - " jdaxthelm " wrote: > > > This recipe looks wonderful but I did have a question on it: I > thought that molasses was not allowed on LID -but this recipe calls > for > 1/3 cup mild-flavored non sulfured molasses > > Am I misinformed about LID and molasses (highly likely) or perhaps > there is a difference between non sulfured molasses and plain > molasses and we can have one type but not the other?
