Hello,

Ethan (5/28/02 - bilateral)has been in the DBB for 3+ months and is

wearing 000 shoes. His toes are coming over the front and when I take

his feet out for appx 8 hours/day his feet seem like the shoes might

be a little small for him in the width. I recently ordered new shoes

through the group that Dr. Ponseti's office uses and they sent me a

size 0 medium width for his next shoes. When I tried one of the shoes

on him, they seemed really HUGE. Do you have any tips on when to go

to the next size? Will they be big for a while? I can still get his

feet all the way down in his current shoes.

Thanks for any tips, pointers, etc.

and Ethan,

There are also shoes that are 00 that may fit better than the 0 shoes

until he grows into them. The American Prosthetics group should be

able to send those to you.

Hi ,

When the toes can bend over the front openning of the shoe it's time to

change.. It seems like Ethan is there now so it time for a change. And yes,

the shoes will be big for a while but not for long! The important thing with

the new shoes is that the heels stay firmly in place at the back. Our

daughter has been out of the shoes a while but the thing about the heels has

stuck with me because we were always concerned about the new shoes.

Whenever Zoe's shoes get too small, she starts having difficulty going to

sleep at naptime and nighttime. Also, she starts waking more often. This is

also the case when the bar is too small. At first I thought it was

coincidence, but after the third time, I caught on.

Once when I was waiting for a larger pair of shoes, the shoe store clerk

told me to unlace a hole or two at the bottom so her foot wouldn't feel as

much pressure on her foot at the end of the shoe. There have been times when

I waited too long, so when I got the next size, she only wore them for a

month or two before going to the next size. She probably could've skipped

that size. The things you learn after the fact!

Now I order two sizes at a time because once she gets uncomfortable in the

shoes, it could take up to a week to get the next size. That's a lot of

sleep disrupted nights. As soon as I put the new shoes on, the problem

stops.

Hope this helps!

Wow- I appreciate you sharing the information. Ethan has been waking

more frequently at night and not napping as usual. He just cut his

first tooth last friday and I thought it might be because of his

tooth. I will take your advice on ordering the shoes for sure!

Thanks so much! I have had the same feeling that his shoes are so worn

in.... leather is nice and soft, etc. I am going to go for it in the

morning. I really appreciate the insight- it makes me feel much

Thanks so much! I have had the same feeling that his shoes are so worn

in.... leather is nice and soft, etc. I am going to go for it in the

morning. I really appreciate the insight- it makes me feel much

better.

thanks for your help with the shoe issue. It looks like you skipped

several sizes at a time- that makes me feel better moving from the 000

to the 0. If the shoes seem to slip after a few days, I will go ahead

and get the 00, if necessary. i really appreciate all your help

.

thank you!

Sounds like Zoe is growing fast! I think Ethan is getting to the

point where the shoes might bother him a little and his feet hang over

about 1/4 of an inch...so its just time. Its great to hear that you

have been able to donate the shoes to a great cause! I like the idea

of bronzing the first pair.
