Guest guest
Hi Guys- I am scheduled for my resection surgery in seven days, and I am planning to go through with it, but dammit (pardon my french)!! Today, I got my MRI results which say that I am definitely BU. Before this, my saline ultrasound and 3-D ultrasound said that I am SU (big, broad septum). My HSG said " uncertain if BU or SU. " All three of the REs I consulted are reputable and the radiologist who did my MRI is supposedly so as well. What am I to think of this? It is overwhelming and confusing. Do I have a " combo platter " and these docs have somehow not thought of that possibility? Is there a chance that my surgeon is going to cut into my so-called septum and actually perforate the top of my uterus? (he believes I am septate, which is why we are doing the surgery). How can these doctors see different things when looking at the same thing? I am going to lose my mind (not really), but god!! What the heck? My pre-surgical appointment is Wednesday, and I have some very pointed questions to ask. Can anyone relate to this? Thanks for listening---
Guest guest
: Based on discussions with several professionals, I don't think MRIs are conclusive. As long as you get a lap/hyst combo your doc will be able to tell if your you have uterine lining around the abnormality (i.e., BU) or not. I would not worry too much as long as you are having the lap -- they should be able to diagnose without too much risk of perforation. Good luck and try not to second guess yourself -- trust your own instincts on this. t SU resected 11/2/04 Mom to Max born 8/1/03 > Hi Guys- > > I am scheduled for my resection surgery in seven days, and I am planning to > go through with it, but dammit (pardon my french)!! Guest guest
Hi : I am also going for my resection surgery in less than two weeks. I also had a transvag u/s and an MRI that said I was BU. After taking my films to my RE, she showed me the films and I saw that there was only a slight dip on the top of the uterus. My RE said that I was not likely BU and I probably have a septum. I trust my RE over the radiologist. My RE said that many radiologists throw BU around when they see a uterus with two chambers. I am choosing to have the resection because my RE and the wise women on the boards said the lap/hyst is the gold standard and I will have the septum removed. So I can move on to TTC again. Yes, yes, yes...I'm glad that a radiologist also told you about this. It has been my experience and also I have read that MANY other members have had radiologists that get " SLOPPY " with their terminology and call anything with more than one chamber a BU. So I was going to tell you to not worry too much about what the radiologist called it in the MRI, instead, speak with your RE and ask him to show you why he thinks it is SU and how can he reassure you that he won't perforate your uterus. Chances are he will tell you that via the lap and hys he will able to tell if it is septum or healthy myometrium; also he will be looking for any signs of a bleed which would indicte that he is starting to cut into healthy tissue - a septum does not bleed. You are asking all VERY good and reasonable questions. Use your appt this Wed to let your dr know your fears and reassure you. I'm sure he will respect that you have done your homework.
