There are many recipes for keto-friendly cakes

BUT--they are not really " normal " -per my 10 yr old Keto-Kid and her siblings!!

cheesecake

triple layer cake

hazlenut cake

Atkins cheesecake

If you can use Atkins ice cream--check the ingredients--

A meal can be calculated to " make-your own sundaes "

ice-cream--and my other kids even like the taste--or the party kids can have

regular ice cream--already put in the cups and no one will know your son is

eating a different kind of ice cream

Atkins ice cream--

" whipped heavy cream--with sweetener "

" walden farms " -chocolate fudge--no carbs

fruit

Layer in a birthday cup

top with a candle

snacks: nuts --especially macadamia nuts for the keto-kid

We always opted to skip the food portion of the party

Even if you do hotdogs--your son could still feel " left-out " when his is not

on a real hotdog bun (there are low carb breads)

At 10, my daughter will not even eat at school with her classmates, she

always did before, for the first 2 years, but this year, she " feels it " -the

difference and says she is embarrassed--even if meals are similar

At others parties we always asked the family what they were serving and I

would bring her very similar meal-now she would rather not eat at the parties

SOOOO=what do we do??

A fun-filled food-less party

Bowling, golfing, swimming, paint-ball, ice skating, roller-blading, movies,

arcades, --and make sure all the kids families know they need to eat before

the party

My daughter also gets an extra present--for no " food-bill "

And have better " favors " --

the money spent on the food goes into entertainment and " gifts " for everyone

All nine year olds like presents and to have an " active-fun " party

Guess I am out to change the American way of thinking--even at school--WHY

all the food parties--

Most of the keto meals can be prepared to " somewhat resemble-real kids

foods " --but sometimes this is not enough for our kids

This worked when she was 7 and 8 but at 10--we are seeing her show her

independance and " stubborness " --yes that is what the keto diet is designed to

do--give us back our kids

She was always in a " fog " and so drugged--nothing or everything bothered her

She is now making decisions for herself

ASK your son what he thinks about his party--of course with the keto

limitations

My daughter's new saying is: " IT IS NOT FAIR!! "

our new saying is: " LIFE IS NOT FAIR!! "

She laughs!

Sorry there is no easy answer

Everyone on this site can give you lots of ideas

Have fun and HAPPY 9th BIRTHDAY

Well, my solution is not the most creative but most if not all kids will eat it.

I make a sugar free jello pie...just make and pour into a pie plate. We stick

candles in it and sing and then everyone gets a slice of jello pie with real

whipped cream on top....it's nice because everyone gets the same thing -

including the keto kid, for once.

Birthday cake

Hi everyone

What does everyone do for a Birthday cake. My son will be nine this

month. Although he is doing great on his diet he is not doing well

emotionly the pass few weeks. and his brithday is coming soon. I

think that his birthday coming is part of the reason that he is not

doing very well Lately and I would love to suprise him with

something " Normal " that his friends could eat too.

Thanks for your ideas!

Ramona --- The best thing to do is ...do things differently....... Don't

focus on the food. Focus on balloons and games. Make it the most fun

birthday ever (especially if he's having an emotionally hard time right

now). Invite a clown, a man with a monkey, etc. (I'd spend a little

extra $$), have it at the local gymnastics place. I would make a few

snacks. Some may have a cheese cake recipe you could use. But buy a " 9 "

candle and put it in a little candle holder (it fits like a long candle).

Make your table festive, with nuts and keto type snacks. Do you have

the cookies recipe? Do some fun shapes with SF jello. Bottom line.....

be creative & move the focus away from the food.

Cookie recipe

(this is from memory)

2 egg whites - whipped with mixer

stir in 1/4 cream of tarter

stir in ~1/4 small box of sugar free jello

place drops (quarter size) onto a greased pan and cook at about 250

degrees for about 13 minutes (until they are getting a little brown on

top). You can touch them -- to test, pick one up to make sure they

aren't still spongy. I use a baking stone - works good, but any pan will

work.

We use green jello. They are light & crispy. I give about 5 in one

setting (when he's had a meal).

Do you have a meal planner or can you e-mail the ingredients to your

dietitian and get the correct calculations for his diet?

These recipes will give you an idea of " about " how many grams to use

Please check with your Keto team --

1. Do you have a cheesecake recipe from your keto team?

2. Atkins ice cream-can he tolerate net carbs?

Whip up his cream with sweetener or sugar free jello powder or Atkins flavors

Walden farms has the " 0 " carb fudge-and other flavors

There are also carb-free chocolate chips

nuts-slightly ground

You can make this into an Ice-cream cake with layers of the above --

3. Brownie chocolate cake-recipe from another mom

This can be a chocolate " cake "

35 Gms Eggbeaters

15 gms olive oil

10 gms ground macadamia nuts

10 gms cream

6 gms butter

10 gms jello-sugar/fat free chocolate pudding mix powder

Whip eggbeaters and oil, add nuts, then add cream & butter, and last pudding

mix

grease pan

bake at 375--????time this is for individual cookie/brownies and they take 20

min--but in a cake pan -?? time

4. Triple Layer Keto Kid Dessert-from another mom

please- these need to be converted into grams

Whipping Cream=1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream

1 tsp artificial vanilla(or sweetner of choice)

Whip cream & vanilla-begins to stiffen

add sweetner-to taste

beat until firm --then refrigerate

Sugar-free chocolate pudding=1 box-jello brand--less carbs

1/3 cup Splenda or sweetner of your choice

1/2 cup water

Whip until thick

put in bowl & refrigerate

9x9 cake=2 cups almond flour (ground almonds)

1 tsp artificial vanilla

5 eggs --separated

2 tsp baking powder

5 tbls cocoa

1 cup splenda

1/8 tsp cream of tartar

preheat oven to 325------grease 9x9 pan or cupcake tins

Whip egg whites with cream of tartar until stiff

In a separate bowl, cream butter with egg yolks until light and fluffy, add

vanilla and splenda beat until mixed, add about 1/3 of whipped egg whites to

butter/egg mix and mix lightly, Fold the whole thing in to the whipped egg

whites and fold lightly, add 1 cup flour and fold lightly, add remaining

flour, baking powder, and cocoa and fold thoroughly, Be careful not to break

down

whites

bake 9x9 cake for 20-25 min

otherwise fill cupcakes 1/2 full-bake 15-20 min until tops crack

These are some ideas

There are recipes for Macaroon cookies and Macadamia buttercrunch

The keto recipe files on this web site has many recipes

Hope some of the other recipes helped

Macadamia nuts are a true 3:1 ratio per the keto book-good snack for the keto

Two weeks ago I made a coconut cake for my daughter's 11th birthday. I

think it was a variation of an Atkins type recipe:

70g ground almonds

71g dessicated coconut

200g coconut milk (per 100g = Pr 1g Fat 9.9g Carb 1.65g)

158g egg (approximation)

59g Double Cream (47.5% fat)

Basically mix everything together and cook on a medium heat in the oven

until the centre is cooked (test with a skewer or something similar)

We put candles on and then after my daughter had blown them out I weighed

out her piece. I had already calculated her peice of cake into a birthday

meal which also had " pizza " (slice of aubergine base, slowly fried to soak

up as much oil as possible then removed from the oil. Some mushrooms sliced

(free food for my daughter) and fried slowly then a tiny amount of double

cream and ordinary flour added in with some cheddar cheese and some pure

tomato paste (also free). This was then poured over the aubergine and some

oregano added, thinly sliced tomato (free) and an olive. Obviously these

ingredients were all calculated (Stanford meal planner) to a 4:1 ratio. She

loved it all!

Hi ,

There are a number of cake and frosting recipes at

and more great ones at http://www.scdiet.org/2recipes/cakes01.html

and http://www.scdrecipe.com/r_007_00010.html

The crisco is illegal because it is made with soybean oil and

Jody, I *love* this idea!! It's fantastic!

This may sound odd, but what about making a large amount of

banana pancakes, then stack them and cut them the exact same

size, making a rectangle. Put frosting in between each layer and

then frost the outside too.

Kim,

With Sheila's idea of the marshmallow frosting, I bet it would

taste like a giant layered Twinkie.
