And basic driving is basic driving. Non-emergency, non-medical

invalid transportation needs only a ride, not medical care. They

shouldn't have to call or be charged for a medical ambulance. If you

think they should, you obviously haven't paid an ambulance bill lately.

Terrell, have you ever watched a session of Congress or the U.S.

Senate? Ever been to a meeting of the AMA or ABA? Ever watched your

local city council or school board in action? This is not unique to

us here. This is how things get hashed out in the real world.

Sometimes it's ugly. Sometimes it's not. Sometimes it's productive.

Sometimes, not so much. But everybody gets a chance to be heard,

ideas are exchanged, and solutions are fomented. It's not perfect,

but it's the American way. I am pleased with the discussion.

I am by no means saying I am not pleased with the discussion It is good to get

ideas out. I will say yes I have seen our " democracy " /daycare's at work. It is

funny and you are right good things can come out of it.

The thing is that MOST everyone has a good idea ( I cant sy I feel that way

about all but I am just one person)

One day good things will happen to our profession and yes I will call it a

profession because truely that is what it is and most of us act in that way. At

least the same percentage as do any other profession.

Patients is a virtue

All,

I know that I promised to slide back into the shadows but I have to put in my

$0.02 here. Remember when the whole LP issue was being debated people went nuts

because we are adding another level and further fragmenting EMS. So now we are

wanting to add another class of provider and call them transfer medics or

whatever. Seems to me that is going to drive a bigger wedge in our groups.

Besides, who gets to decide who is a " real " medic and who isn't. Is that based

solely on where I work.

We have been talking for months about bringing EMS together and I struggle to

see how telling a group of providers that they are not the real deal because

they chose to work for a certain company is going to bring about the unity that

we so desperately want.

Dudley, you're attempting to emotionalize an issue which is not

emotional. It simple common sense. It's not about what they

deserve. It's about what is appropriate. And they don't need a big

box with red lights, a siren, and 2 LPs on board to go home from the

podiatrist.

We don't send lawyers out to domestic disturbances. We send cops.

We don't drop smoke jumpers on house fires. We send structural fire

fighters.

Why would you believe that a paramedic is somehow more qualified to

hold the hand of these people than anybody else who cares?

I think you are missing the point. We are talking about doing the

absolute opposite of fragmenting EMS. We are talking about focusing

EMS into it's primary purpose. EMERGENCY MEDICAL service. Again,

without E and M, it isn't EMS.

We're not talking about who is a real medic and who isn't, because

all medics would be involved in EMS. Those transporting non-

emergent invalids would not be EMS providers of any level, medic or

otherwise.

It just boggles that mind that those same people who cringe and grow

angry everytime they hear the term " ambulance driver " will

blissfully sit here and allow themselves to be one.

Do then what you are asking for is to have someone " triage " what is ans

ambulance patient and what can ride without an EMS provider riding? Hey I think

I just say something like that in Mother, Jugs and Speed!!! Thought we had moved

past that

for what its worth I must have been reading all this wrong too I got the

same impression
