The computer models are starting to center on the Port O'Connor region as

Ground Zero for Rita. I hope all is well in Calhoun County Henry.

It is incredible to me, that level of complacency from some of our citizens,

even in the light of Katrina.

Absolutely incredible.

I'm in Dallas on a business trip. The hotel manager here said the closest

hotel rooms available were Little Rock, Arkansas and Hobbs, New Mexico.

Wes,

Your hotel manager is uninformed. We have plenty of motel rooms available

right here in Albany and several Bed and Breakfasts. And you can watch the

deer and the antelope play.

2200 hours: San news reported that ALL hotels/motels in the city of

San are full. Also, a severe shortage of bottled water, batteries,

flashlights and gas cans. A lot of people in San have never been through

anything like this before. Listening to the news, I'm thinking to myself

about the kids' toys, etc on the deck in the backyard, just like we always tell

people the unsecured items in cars can become missiles when slamming on the

brakes, this stuff on your back porch will be the same way. Even here in San

they are telling us to expect winds of up to 70+ MPH. Please everyone

be careful.

Everyone prepare....

and I were out and about town (Tyler) tonight. There are lines 3 & 4 cars

deep at every gas station that has gas. Some are already sold out. Wal-Mart is

a mad house (well more so than usual). There are no " D " Cell batteries anywhere

to be found. Gasoline cans are gone, flashlights, candles, non-perishable foods

are all very low supply.

We have friends that were in , MS when Katrina came in. It's amazing at

the similarities in the relationships between New Orleans / as Houston /

Tyler. They were without power about a week in and the water was not

safe to drink for much longer.

I agree the complacency with this storm is amazing. My brother, sister-in-law,

& nephew are in Orange and are only planning to go as far north as Newton (if

needed). They are not making any other preparations at all. I have cousins in

Houston and they have no plans to leave.

According to NOAA http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/pastint.shtml the most intense (lowest

pressure) recorded during a hurricane to hit the US was an unnamed storm in 1935

over the Florida Keys. It registered at 892mb with peak winds of 165mph. As of

21:30 CST Rita was at 897, with sustained winds of 170mph ranking it #2 all

time.

Our thoughts and prayers are with those that are on and along the coast, but

many more of us may need it before this one is said and done.

Lou - one of the more reliable of the local weather guessers is predicting

hurricane force winds as far north as B/CS.

I wouldn't believe it myself, but the NWS is currently reporting 175 mph

sustained winds, with gusts to 210. NWS is predicting sustained 155mph winds

(CAT 5) on landfall.

Mr. Verrett:

Didn't upset me a bit. Glad to hear from you. While we are all praying for

the safety of our brothers and sisters, their families, and those they are

dedicated to protect and serve, roll up your sleeves, there is a lot of work to

do NOW, and it will only get worse from where we are at right now.
