Guest guest
Lori - I find it interesting that has the cyclical vomiting without the fundo when some say the fundo causes the cyclical vomiting. If the fundo were done without the g-tube, cyclical vomiting could be a huge concern. Since Dylan has both he vomits through his g-tube. (just a reassurance if any one's child already has a fundo) I agree that they should not be done just because it is easier for the doctor. Guest guest
Bless you for responding! I welcome anyone's feedback anytime. I only directed the question to Michele because I knew she avoided the fundo specifically with Aubrie even though Aubrie had severe reflux. I have a strong gut feeling on Carmen NOT getting the fundo. When I told the surgeon that I had no problem with her getting the g-tube but was very concerned about the fundo, he said " oh, that's no big deal, really " . Now, we waited over 2 hours to see this guy to tell us that about something that I know IS a big deal, thanks to you and the other CHARGE mom's on this list. I would be lost without the guidance that I get here. Thank you thank you thank you!!! , mom to Zach 4.5 years and Carmen 20 months (CHARGE) P.S, I noticed that your 5 year old was decannulated--when did this get accomplished for her? Also, do you re type all that stuff after your name every time you post or is there a place you can save a " signature " . I can't seem to figure that out! Guest guest
I save the " signature " information in a word processing document (word) then copy it each time - I know there is a way to do your signature in outlook which is what I use for e-mail but I don't want it on every message - it could scare non-charger families! had her trach from 10/13/00 to 3/29/01 (it is amazing how those dates stay with you!). Once she could mouth breath we pushed and bullied the ENT into removing it (after a sleep study). She was born with both nose sides (mom term!) closed but finally got one to stay open but needed to be sure she could mouth breath before we would risk life without the trach - however her trach site stayed open until is was surgically closed a about a year later.) She was much healthier without it but needed it to survive the first several months. Guest guest
Lori, I hear your frustration with this thing. I agree 100%. Tyler was about 3 weeks old when he got his fundo/gtube. Gtube I understood, fundo, I wasn't given a choice. He was getting it 'because he desparately needed it and that they'd never seen reflux that bad " . He was three weeks old....I just wish we had given him more time to show us what he could do on his own without surgery. Seems they're always quick to fix the things that I said could wait, and the things I wanted fixed immediately, seemed to always have to wait. Frustrating. The whole process. It's a black hole. I do agree with the fundo in order to prevent severe esophageal damage due to vomitting and refluxing into the throat. Major damage to that area is apparantly irreversible. Again, another black hole. Shooting from the hip sometimes.......painful to decide. and I had hated Tyler's fundo from the start. He would wretch, putting his entire hand, all fingers down his throat with no relief b/c the fundo wouldn't allow it. You could mention to your friend whose trying to get the fundo undone to ask the docs to dilate the nissen.......that's all I could get out of my docs. It seemed to help some, at least in the beginning before so many other things started. Not really sure what cyclical vomitting entails....I'm sorry she has that. Keep up the good work. Let me know if you need extra support in the area of getting the fundo automatically with a gtube. I know a mom who fought rigorously for her son to not have the fundo. Her son and she suffered through the severe vomitting for a long time, but he never lost his appetite due to gagging with no relief and a small stomach from the wrap. So sorry, never expected this to be so long. Guessing I feel somewhat passionate about it. Hoping you are well. We are trying our best to get back to 'normal'. Missing my old world very much. Somehow I feel like I liked being a special needs mom. Sometimes I miss him so much I could throw up. Can't stare too long at pictures.....hurts so bad. Time they say. Wish it wouldn't be such a slow process. Catch me up when you can. I'm still very bad on teh phone. Email has been my outlet. XOXO, (pardon my misspellings in this) > >Reply-To: CHARGE >To: <CHARGE > >Subject: Re: To Michele W : G Tube with Fundo question >Date: Tue, 7 Mar 2006 16:20:37 -0600 > >I never knew there was a link between the cyclical vomiting and the >fundo........interesting..... > >Lori Myers > Re: To Michele W : G Tube with Fundo question > > > > > > , > > > > Dylan has the fundo so I can't answer that part but I can reassure >you that > > physicians are advisors not decision makers unless it is a life or >death > > situation in my view. Guest guest
I have just heard some folks mention that as a theory - I honestly don't know if there is or isn't - just knowing she has the cyclical vomiting and not the funding lets us know that in her case, surgery cannot be blamed, which in my mind lends to more credence that it is another manifestation of CHARGE that we don't understand the whys and what triggers it... At least we often find the what to do that works for our child, so they are not too miserable from it!
