My leg was over 1/2 inch longer before surgery because it was subluxed

(femur not fully seated in the socket due to spurs). The first month after

surgery while I was not fully weight bearing, it still seemed longer, much

to my disappointment. Once I started using the leg again and the joint

capsule healed, everything just pulled together and I am even again. It

took me a bit longer than some to drop the crutches because my theory is

that the tendons in that hip needed to " shrink " a bit to start working

correctly since they had been overstretched due to the subluxation. Hope

this helps....all the best.

Thanks to Dr, Gross, I'm in no pain just stiff. My right leg (op

side) is still longer than left is this something that will work

itself

out?

Hi,

I am having all sorts of fun with leg length myself.......... Mine were same

length going into surgery, looked like the same length just after surgery

and then I went through a period where it has seemed that the new hip one

was a good bit shorter........ even the surgeon was thinking it was at 2

months.......... However I doubt it actually is........ now everything is

settling I am finding my whole body is so twisted from how I used it in the

years leading up to surgery it is going to take a bit to sort it all

out............. I suspect that I am not alone in this sort of

issue.......... and how long it takes to settle down will depend on the

degree of problem developed with muscles, scars etc before the hip

replacement.

And yes I am seeking out deep tissue massage and other forms of skeletal and

muscle adjustment to help along the way.
