I am not military, so I can't give any advice on that aspect of things.

I'm , list-owner and mom to 4 1/2 year old Jakob who was born with

severe bilateral clubfoot (in case you don't know). Lucky for us, we

live in Iowa City, IA and Jakob started his treatment with Dr.

Weinstein, a colleague of Dr. Ponseti, at 9 days old.

Ok, for the real reason I'm posting... I wonder if getting a referral to

Dr. Dobbs at the St. Louis Shriner's would be an option for you if

Tricare won't cover all of your expenses otherwise. I haven't dealt

with the Shriner's organization personally, but their treatment would

come at no cost to you until your daughter is 18.

YES!! My husband is active duty army and we are stationed

at Ft Bragg. I had no problems getting my daughters pediatrician to

get a referral in for her to go to Iowa. So far all of our expenses

have been covered except for the DBB which I just am being lazy

about calling in and explaining these fees and that the shoes are

part of the treatment. Also, Graces Dr did not even know about the

Ponseti method when I asked her for the referral...I just told her

that her current Dr was damaging her feet. I was assigned an on

base military podiatrist when Grace was born and was never told that

I actually had options available to me, so she was 6 months when we

went to Iowa. Dr Ponseti was actually my second referral to an off

base Dr. If they try to give you a hard time saying that they do

not do referrals out of your area (Iowa was way out of our area),

then just be persistant and use my daughter for an example. Email me

if you have any more questions now or later.

boothejennifer@... Oh, I didn't even read your

whole question first....but it only took like a week at the most

before I had approval to go to Iowa and they never asked for any

codes. Tricare can be such a pain!! I went ahead and made the

appointment before I called tricare and maybe that helped things

move along faster. Good luck.

Here is a post from April 2002 at Parentsplace where 4 parents with

Tricare were discussing it. At least 2 of them had or have since had

experience with the Ponseti method and some of them are also members

of this group.

Hi! we are Army stationed at Ft. Carson. I didn't hear about the

Ponseti method until my dd was 3 months old. We had a see my dd PCM,

and then I just kept bugging them,I would call a couple times a day.

Icalled on Monday and had the refferral by Friday. They refused to

pay for travel expenses, but we are trying to get that reembursed now

too. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me at

Moriahdale@... What doctor are you seeing in Kansas? we go

to Albuquerque, NM and see Dr. Brown. He is absolutely wonderful!!
