Guest guest
Well early Fri.,Nick had a breakdown and I called the Av-Med Oncology nurse who told me to call his onc.,ask did he(onc)want us to ambulance Nick to the office or the ER. They were busy(as usual)and after 10 minutes I called 911. They came, did the vitals.took a look see, started an IV and off we went. ER was great. C.A.T turned out brain but then I did not know that, chest x-ray,blood work, blood cultures and all the things like urine, sugar etc etc. Bottom line,He has some kind of infecion and is dehydrated. They gave him I.V. drips.antibiotics, etc etc. Admitted 7:00pm On oxygen, had aersol treatments, more antiboitics,I & O and assisted oob. This afternoon two young people came to take him for a C.A.T.,we said had one yesterday. They checked, told us brain, and this was to be chest. I told them he was on oxygen(2 litre) and his underwear had snaps,*once this posed a problem. We live close by. My daughter and her hunny came to take me home, feed dog and birds and change clothes. get in house, phone rings,do't recognize number, man answers says he is from Baptist Hospital Business Office and how am I going to pay my $600.00 co-pay I explained, just left, hubby in C.A.T. Scan land and I will discuss Monday. It's saturday after 3;30 and I can't solve that. I don't know if they will let him go Sunday,Monday or waht but the manner and tome were both abroupt and demanding. I called Av-med they said Mon I shold call administration because there are ways to deal with it and that was not the action of a first class establishment. Needless to say I am p....d off . yet in todays newspaper,I see our local Hospital jackson memorial had to write off$50 million in unpaid bills. There must be a way not to upset a pt.(Nick is 73,infirm and at this minute frail) and I,hhis irish Wife have my dander up. Just had to blow off steam. Great work on one side, offset by a callous approach on the other. We sometimes have problems since our last name is n,similar to a womans first nae and he has oftern been mistaken for another person. Life has its ups and downs and Lord,I am sorry I lost it.but sometimes the strain gets to you and you blow it. I apologize but I am still mad as a hornet. nick & jane

Guest guest
Katy The stockyards remedy was when Galen was working in Omaha @ Stockyards some of the old timers up there told that taking a swig of blackberry brandy would stop the diarrhea, our family has used that for years to help.haha Well Galen says it is too strong of taste for him now, so he uses the usual medicines now for it. You mentioned the b/p I had cousin tell me that their onc had told them some people never have high b/p again after taking chemo for some reason. I am beginning to believe this cuz he has fell, confusion and everything else that goes alon with low b/p. Last week he didn't even know the door where we were to go out of it asked me how to get out! He realized something was going on with him also. We take his b/p 3 -4 times a day to keep track of it. Also going to talk to dr. more monday about this. Guest guest
Jane, First let me give you a hug for you surely need one!I am so sorry to hear that Nick is feeling so poorly, maybe now that he has been admitted they can get him feeling better before he comes home too. I probably wouldn't have been as nice as you to the guy that called about the co-pay.I,also am Irish and have the temper to prove it when provoked!I would definitely report him to the administration as well as the hospital board of directors, there is just no excuse for being so rude. I hope that you will be able to get some sleep tonight and things look better in the morning.I'm saying a special prayer for you and Nick right now, that God will grant you both the strength, rest, and His grace to see this through. Guest guest
Jane, Please accept my prayers that Nick will come out of this bad patch very soon. I follow your posts as I do so many on this board who are suffering from this horrid disease. I lurk mostly but please know that there are many out here who understand and pray for you every day, even if they cannot and do not post. Jane... it is so hard to watch your loved one be so ill and to feel so helpless. Sometimes I think it may be harder on the caregivers than the sick who they look after. Please keep us posted and God bless you and Nick. Kit DX stage IV 6-2003 w/liver and lung mets
