Guest guest
, Hi and congrats on your pregnancy. It sounds like we have a very similar experience...except that I've already delivered. I had Open RNY in March 2001 and lost about 90 of the 110 that I needed to lose before becoming pregnant. I had stabalized...at least I was only losing about 1 - 3 pounds a month before becoming pregnant but started losing again during the first trimester...I didn't have morning sickness, though and was actually eating more! I started gaining about week 14 and ending gaining 36 pounds during the entire pregnancy. I delivered (by C Section) two weeks ago, tomorrow, and have lost 21 pounds so far. I actually walked out of the hospital weighing 2 pounds more than when I went in because of all the fluid they gave me following surgery but it has started dropping off pretty rapidly now. I know it's going to take some work to get all of the pregnancy weight off, not to mention the 20 pounds that I need to get to goal. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and excercise...something that I didn't do during my rapid weight loss following WLS. Anyway, congratulations, good luck and welcome to the group. I think it's very common to lose during the first trimester...even for non-WLS moms so I wouldn't worry too much. Debbie Hello all Hi everyone here from Florida for now but soon relocating to Stroudsburg, PA. I had a lap RNY done in July of 2001 and lost about 90 pounds, never really got to my goal weight as I simply stopped losing at about one year out and have been the same weight, give or take 5 lbs, ever since. I am 8 weeks pg with an estimated due date of Sept 3, 2003!! Hubby and I are very excited!! I noticed that I am starting to lose weight again and was wondering if that has happened to anyone else who had stalled out for such a long period of time? I am definitely eating less (my normal is about 1000-1200 calories per day) but with the morning sickness its hard to keep stuff down or I find that I am simply just not hungry at all. Anyway.......just wanted to say hello and introduce myself to the group!! K.

Guest guest
How exciting, Tonya! Did you ever make your goal weight? I didn't, so I'm dreading the weight gain from the pregnancy. Not like I'm going to try not to gain or anything, but I'm trying to prepare myself for it, psychologically. --Darla > > Hi everyone > > > > here from Florida for now but soon relocating to > > Stroudsburg, PA. Guest guest
i joined here awhile ago to see if i could find some good information that i could use to help my mom as well as attempt to share some things. 3 weeks ago my mother had to have surgery. she was diagnosed with colon cancer last year. since then she has been undergoing chemo every week. last month she was not able to keep food down and went in for an ultra sound and they found a mass, even though they were doing regular scans to check the progress of her cancer they were unable to detect the mass for some reason. she decided to have surgery and when they went in they had to remove her uterus and ovaries, part of her colon as well as a large mass that was covering her entire stomach , the dr said it was on the apron that was covering her ab area. it was a long and painful surgery but she is finally going home, but we had to get a nurse in to help take care of her. i hope that anyone on the this list that is going thru chemo and having their regular scans also has regular ultra sounds done, for some reason the scans that they were doing to monitor the colon cancer were not picking up the other cancer. Guest guest
Liz: I totally agree with you about self advocacy. It is SO important to listen to your own gut feeling...I think that it is much more important than reporting your symptoms and then trusting your doctor to interpret them. My husband was just not feeling well for 1-2 years. He had vague GI symptoms. He kept going back to his doctor who kept dismissing his concerns, even though his hematocrit was continuously dropping! Since he had a colonoscopy less than a year before, they never even thought it could be colon cancer! Unfortunately, every time he got the news that nothing serious was wrong, we would be relieved and my husband would start exercising more or meditating, thinking that his fatigue and GI discomfort was due to stress!! Then, all of a sudden, he had severe pain which turned out to be a complete obstruction (a malignant tumor) in his colon. Unfortunately, it was then too late...he lived 2 more years and died at age 54. In retrospect, we should have gone for second opinions until he found an answer. If he had, he might be alive today. I hope that your words and my story help others to really be aware of their own concerns, if they have GI symptoms or persistent fatigue, and go to a COUPLE of doctors (GI specialists), not just one, to make absolutely sure that they find out what is causing their problem. The earlier colon cancer is diagnosed, the better chance of a cure. All the best, Amie
