Guest guest
I think my son had a reaction to the acidophilus capsules from Kirkman labs when I gave them to him in juice (we had worked up to 1/6 capsule/day but he complained of stomach " owies " ). Does this mean that I shouldn't use these in the nut yogurt recipe on pecanbread.com (called Cashew Yogurt by Erja)? This recipe calls for using acidophilus powder capsules. If he reacted to the capsules in juice, wouldn't he most likely react to them in yogurt? Should I follow the Almond Yogurt recipe by Marjan - I noticed it calls for a yogurt starter by Custom Probiotics? What is best? Please advise. My son has been off the acidophilus capsules for 1 1/2 weeks and I think I'm seeing regressive, die-off behavior due to this. It's no fun - sometimes I wonder if this diet is going to work for my son. I admit I'm a bit discouraged but I'm committed to keeping him on the diet for 6 months or so. Thanks, Eileen (mom to , SCD 7 weeks)
Guest guest
Hi Eileen, I'm new to this myself... 4 weeks. It maybe that he was reacting to the juice? It appears that he was showing some progress while on them, as you spoke of him regressing since not giving them to him. I personally wouldn't panic with one incident, especially if you had noticed some improvement otherwise. Just my 2 cents worth. I know it seems alittle difficult to figure these things out. I've been trying to keep a food diary for this purpose, so I can see if a problem duplicates itself for confirmation. Amazingly I found that the diet sodas, even sweetened with Splenda were responsible for some of his diarrhea and urgency/rectal spasms episodes. I had him down to one a day, so I've convinced him to go without them for 'awhile' to see if he feels better. We are starting to see alittle improvement. Guest guest
" Amazingly I found that the diet sodas, even sweetened with Splenda were responsible for some of his diarrhea and urgency/rectal spasms episodes. " Splenda is NOT LEGAL and not allowed on SCD. Please remove this from your child's diet and do not reintroduce it. Splenda is made in a way that the human body cannot utilize the sugar, but Elaine says that doesn't mean that the yeast and bacteria inside us cannot utilize it.
