Guest guest
Hey guys! Well, it's official...I will have been stuck here in the hospital for 6 weeks tomorrow! I can't believe it's been that long. Yesterday made 4 weeks since I have been out of the bed for anything, not even to use the restroom. Anyway, I will be 24 weeks tomorrow and my doctor will be giving me the steroid shots for the babies lungs in case they decide to come anytime real soon. Some of the nurses here have made comments about how painful the shots are and I was just wondering if any of you have had them and if so, how bad are they? I figure a shot in my butt is NOTHING compared to the other things I have gone through...burying my baby girl, going through the HSG, having the cerclage, etc. These nurses don't always understand that being on bedrest and not being able to take a shower or get up to pee, much less taking a few shots in the butt are the LEAST of my concerns after all the other crap I've been through to get this far. Anyway, I was curious about them. If any of you have had those shots please let me know. Thanks! Guest guest
Layci, I had those shots 3 weeks ago when I was in preterm labor due to a placental abruption triggered by a blood clot I had since I was 4 1/2 weeks pg. I did not find them that bad but one of the nurses did a better job than the other. One massaged the area first and I did not even know she had given me the shot. The other one did not and it hurt but I was willing to do anything if it mean it would help my 28 week old baby. Good luck and with everything you have been through those shots are not going to be too bad! I so feel for you though - I spent a week in the hospital and have been on pretty strict bedrest but I was allowed to go home. They did almost keep me until I delivered and if I bleed again I will be. I hope you are doing okay and that the nurses have given you some great ideas of things to do while in bed!! If you need suggestions let me know - I got a ton of good ones from the nurses at the hospital. Good luck! Guest guest
Hi Layci. You are doing so great!!! I am so glad to hear things continue to go so well. You sound like you are in great spirits too. You also sound so selfless, which I had to write and tell you how great it is to hear someone so happy to take the pain and discomfort for the safety of her babies. I hope the shots aren't to bad, and even if they are, you know its for the health of your twin baby girls. I hope everything goes very well and both your girls make it in your arms safely. , 25, SU resected 1 m/c at 14 weeks
Guest guest
Hi Layci! Congrats on how well you are doing! I am so happy for you. Hang in there hon- the end will be such a sweet reward for you. I had the same shots at 27 weeks each 24 hours apart. One thing my nurses did was keep the shot out for a while to get it a little warm before they gave it to me. The cold is what would make it hurt worse. It really didn't hurt that bad at all. I swear the flu shot was a million times worse! Also just in case they haven't told you, the steroids last 5 weeks! So you may have to have another round at week 29 since YOU WILL make it that far. I am now 37 weeks and will have my little boy on Friday. All of my doctors can't believe how far we've made it. He is my little miracle and I have all the faith you will make it through this tough time too. Don't lose faith Hon. I did have a small break down at about 8 weeks of strict bed rest, without my support group I would have never made it through. I pray you will continue to do so well. We're all rooting for you. Guest guest
Hi there, Layci-Just wanted to let you know how proud I am of you! You're doing a great job for these little girls! It's awesome that you're at 24 weeks! I remember feeling like that was a huge milestone when I was pregnant with my son...every week after that was reason to celebrate! I did have the steroid shots...they hurt more than a flu shot or something like that, but nothing major. I guess I'd describe it as a burning sensation and then just mild soreness afterwards. As you said, you've been through plenty...this will be a piece of cake! I really wouldn't give it a second thought. Keep us posted...we're all pulling for you!! Best wishes, UU,
