Guest guest
Hi Kim, Congrats on your little girl! From what I understand, 2.5 is when they start to really worry. Once you go below 3.0 they monitor you more closely. I would talk to your doctor about bed-rest and possibly cerclage if your cervix continues to open. Cerclage isn't usually done so late, but in some cases will be. Also, talk to your ob/gyn about being seen by a perinatologist, aka, maternal/fetal specialist. You can see the perinatologist in conjunction with your ob/gyn if you're attached to her, but peri's have more experience with more risky pregnancies. Let us know how it goes! Guest guest
Hi Kim, My perinatologist told me that anywhere from 3 cm to 5 is normal, they worry under 2.5cm. Did you have a baseline measurement taken at 12 or 14 weeks? Its possible that 2.9cm is normal for you. I believe the real concern is if your cervix is shortening. Congratulations on your baby girl! a SU
Guest guest
A nice long cervical length is 4.0. 3.5 is average. 3.0 is not dire, but in need of monitoring. The real question is if you have a " shrinking " (not a medical term) cervix. This is a joke I used to make about my " incredible shrinking cervix. " Always with a little humor . . . Anyway -- definitely, if your measurements are going smaller, then you may have a serious issue. If they are stable, then I wouldn't be nearly so concerned. All this based not on any expertise on my part, just my own experience and discussions with various OBs and maternal fetal specialists. Best of luck to you!!!!! t SU/BU? sched for possible resection next week -- WISH ME LUCK! But when she called my OB, she said they don't get concerened until 2.6 and under. She still scheduled me for another u/s next week, but I would like to be armed with as much info as I can before my appt. > > The good news is we found out I am carrying a little baby girl! > > Thanks, > Kim 18w3d > >

Guest guest
Kim, I think the ladies on the board have given you great info. I, too, am on your boat (not only in the shortening of the cervix, but carrying a baby girl)--- I went on the 15th for my anatomical u/s and my cervix measured 2.8 cm - The doctor (peri) thought it was a bit short but asked that I speak with my OB to see what they wanted to do - over the weekend I felt pressure and discomfort and pushed for another u/s because I was feeling things that were not " normal " - That Wednesday I went in for an u/s and my cervix measured 2.5 - I self-imposed bed rest over the weekend and for the following u/s on Monday my cervix measured 2.5 - The doctors were more concerned last week - I will be speaking with my OB tomorrow re ; latest u/s and see when we will measure again. In the meantime, I am getting as much " rest " as possible (Go to work, come home and lay down - that's it) . When I spoke with the Peri re: cerclage she said right now the cervix was decent and if it went below 1.9, then it was a definite. Curious to hear what your Dr's advise you - as well as anyone else's thoughts and advice. Marty SU resected 19w4d

Guest guest
Anything 2.5 cm. or shorter. Normal for a first pregnancy is 4.5 to over 5 cm., and slightly shorter for a subsequent pregnancy. Guest guest
<<<< Did you have a baseline measurement taken at 12 or 14 weeks? Hi a, At my 12 week u/s they measured my cervix to be 3.4. The only issue I have with this measurement is that they did not take it intravaginally. Can they still get a good reading on top of the belly? Thanks for your input and help!
