First, it takes at least 6 weeks for the human body to adapt to any new changes in Thyroid medication, Synthroid included...even with Armour you have to give your body these 6 weeks to build it's levels back up in the muscle and fatty tissue. There is no magic pill for what we live with. It just takes time...So, for my dollar at least, I wouldn't be getting any tests done until just before Christmas..thus the 6 weeks. Second, just to assure us that you are taking your Synthroid correctly, ?Are you taking it on an empty stomach first thing in the morning and then waiting at least an hour until you eat or drink anything else? Or taking it at least 3, preferably 4 hours after your last meal of the day and with just a sip of water before hitting the sack? Synthroid needs the full strength of the stomach acids to break apart into the usable T4 hormones, then it takes about 40+minutes to be cycled out of your stomach's system. Thus the 1 hour before eating or drinking. Be patient with yourself now....The body took a while to get into this situation...it'll take a while to get it back out into healthy condition...with this group you will learn how to watch and monitor and treat your body and in some cases teach the Doctor how to help you help yourself gain knowledge in this Thyroid condition. You have no idea how depressed I was getting, with hearing all the bad stories and knowing how hard it was to find someone, and then not hearing back from her for 4 days and hearing how the nurse I talked to on the phone had " that " tone to her voice, you all know what I'm talking about...the, " I obviously think you're full of crap or crazy but I'm going to pretend to placate you by putting in the message to the doctor because that's my job and I'd get in trouble if I didn't. " Yeah, that tone. I literally laid there last night buzzing with excitement, singing an old church song to myself as I fell asleep... " Count Your Blessings. " And I did, with a cat curled up around my head taking up my entire pillow. *giggle* I'm glad I made your day, it definitely made mine, and I thought I'd share the happiness after hearing about so many of those other typical doctors. I was beginning to believe I'd have to either call the pharmacy and see who prescribed Armour (because anyone who does these days at least it means they're open minded instead of just giving you synthroid and saying you're healed), or that I'd have to go through the major process of getting a referral to someone, which is a major hassle with these doctors most of the time. Guest guest Posted November 9, 2005 Report Share Posted November 9, 2005 As much as we vent here about the bad ones... and we need to do that... it's just as important to hear about the good ones... that gives hope to those with a bad one that it's worth going that extra mile to find a good one.... And I did, with a cat curled up around my head taking up my entire pillow. *giggle* I'm glad I made your day, it definitely made mine, and I thought I'd share the happiness after hearing about so many of those other typical doctors. I was beginning to believe I'd have to either call the pharmacy and see who prescribed Armour (because anyone who does these days at least it means they're open minded instead of just giving you synthroid and saying you're healed), or that I'd have to go through the major process of getting a referral to someone, which is a major hassle with these doctors most of the time.
