Hi ,

Just a couple of thoughts here...

First, it takes at least 6 weeks for the human body to adapt to any

new changes in Thyroid medication, Synthroid included...even with

Armour you have to give your body these 6 weeks to build it's levels

back up in the muscle and fatty tissue. There is no magic pill for

what we live with. It just takes time...So, for my dollar at least,

I wouldn't be getting any tests done until just before

Christmas..thus the 6 weeks.

Second, just to assure us that you are taking your Synthroid

correctly, ?Are you taking it on an empty stomach first thing in the

morning and then waiting at least an hour until you eat or drink

anything else? Or taking it at least 3, preferably 4 hours after

your last meal of the day and with just a sip of water before

hitting the sack?

Synthroid needs the full strength of the stomach acids to break

apart into the usable T4 hormones, then it takes about 40+minutes to

be cycled out of your stomach's system. Thus the 1 hour before

eating or drinking.

Be patient with yourself now....The body took a while to get into

this situation...it'll take a while to get it back out into healthy

condition...with this group you will learn how to watch and monitor

and treat your body and in some cases teach the Doctor how to help

you help yourself gain knowledge in this Thyroid condition.

REAL ANSWERS!! Yay!

My doctor finally called me back tonight (9:30pm even! wow, what dedication!) She is going to increase my Synthroid to 100mcg (which is what I was hoping for based on my experimentation with adding extra fourths or halves -- I know, bad patient, not supposed to toy with it, but hey, that's me, that's how I operate and I know enough to know the hyper symptoms and haven't pushed myself that far yet).

I will try the new dose of Synthroid until end of Nov/1st of Dec, then call the Dr. and put in a telecom (phone message) reminding her to call the lab to put in lab for: TSH Free T3 Free T4

and anything else I want checked at that time (she's an awesome listener and is learning with me Hooraayy!!!)

I will go get checked, and schedule appointment for day or two after labs are drawn, and of course post all my labs for you to oogle because I know how much you all love lab results. Aren't I just thoughtful? *giggle* I feel better already just having had a doctor take me seriously and basically cater to how I feel, not some lab result.

If have any problems on the higher dose of Synthroid before then, she told me to call her immediately, esp. if tachycardia, diarrhea, palpitations, etc. Fine with that, too, I like docs who say CALL ME. :)

She's checking on T3/Cytomel for me with other doctors and the pharmacy, but sounded much more interested (as I am) in Armour because it's natural and produces all the necessary hormones.

If my Free T3/4 shows I can use some more T3, she'll switch me to Armour or add it to my Synthroid, whichever I want, but wants to check to be sure I don't get too much and end up hyper, hence the lab tests.

She also said I don't have the symptoms or antibodies that go with autoimmune (Hashi's) and mine is one of those idiopathic ones where the thyroid for whatever reason doesn't function to put out enough hormones. Apparently, she checked my antibodies, they just didn't give me the copy of that part. Silly people.

So, I am guessing I won't feel a lot better by the end of the month on the new dose, but I am also guessing that my test results will show that I can use some additional T3, even if it's "normal" I can probably convince her to try adding the 25mg (smallest dose) of Armour just to see if it makes a difference, as long as I have room to play within the normal ranges.

This doctor is every thyroid patient's dream, and I'm so lucky to have her. I count my blessings tonight! She believes the patient SHOULD be informed of his/her illness, because after all, he/she is the one suffering and the best to say what problems need resolved.

Good night everyone, and may everyone have such a blessing for a doctor. I'm tempted to send her a card, or flowers, and let her know just how unique she is for caring.

I truly do count myself as fortunate. You have no idea how depressed I was getting, with hearing all the bad stories and knowing how hard it was to find someone, and then not hearing back from her for 4 days and hearing how the nurse I talked to on the phone had " that " tone to her voice, you all know what I'm talking about...the, " I obviously think you're full of crap or crazy but I'm going to pretend to placate you by putting in the message to the doctor because that's my job and I'd get in trouble if I didn't. " Yeah, that tone. I literally laid there last night buzzing with excitement, singing an old church song to myself as I fell asleep... " Count Your Blessings. " And I did, with a cat curled up around my head taking up my entire pillow. *giggle* I'm glad I made your day, it definitely made mine, and I thought I'd share the happiness after hearing about so many of those other typical doctors. I was beginning to believe I'd have to either call the pharmacy and see who prescribed Armour (because anyone who does these days at least it means they're open minded instead of just giving you synthroid and saying you're healed), or that I'd have to go through the major process of getting a referral to someone, which is a major hassle with these doctors most of the time.

As much as we vent here about the bad ones... and we need to do that... it's just as important to hear about the good ones... that gives hope to those with a bad one that it's worth going that extra mile to find a good one....

Ain't nothing better than feeling better......

That's what we have to fight for..... to feel better....

I truly do count myself as fortunate. You have no idea how depressed I was getting, with hearing all the bad stories and knowing how hard it was to find someone, and then not hearing back from her for 4 days and hearing how the nurse I talked to on the phone had "that" tone to her voice, you all know what I'm talking about...the, "I obviously think you're full of crap or crazy but I'm going to pretend to placate you by putting in the message to the doctor because that's my job and I'd get in trouble if I didn't." Yeah, that tone. I literally laid there last night buzzing with excitement, singing an old church song to myself as I fell asleep..."Count Your Blessings." And I did, with a cat curled up around my head taking up my entire pillow.
