Guest guest
Dear Bonnie- Thank you so much for asking. is doing very well in his brace. Using our slight OCD tendencies to my advantage, I made an excel spreadsheet gradually increasing his brace wear daily, and he had been on 23 hours a day for the better part of a week now. Monday we went to the orthopedists office for assessment and adjusting. We left with a little extra hip padding (to center our gait), a tighter adjustment at the hips and it seems a more erect demand from the frame. We will be going in monthly to continue making the brace less and less comfortable until his spine is corrected. In the brace his kyphosis x-rays at 49 degrees (down from 64). Though the kyphosis is quite improved in the brace, they are aiming for a goal of 19 degrees or less in the brace (although 40-45 is within normal range) - presuming that he will regress 10-15 degrees once the brace is removed......the scoliosis is mostly unaffected at this point. amazes me with his willingness and acceptance. And he is more aware of his own strength in this area and taking some pride in it - which is doubly nice. Sometimes I go past his door and he has given up on the chair and is kneeling at his desk. I always chide him and ask if that is more comfortable - and he looks so happy. I tell him I am happy for him but that I have to go cry now - which always cracks him up (we have an odd sense of humour in our house). Daily regimen demands crunches, corner stretches and hamstring stretches ) My only sadness this week in this matter is that the orthopedist and the appliance maker did not make known their excitement to that he is willing to wear his brace so diligently. Rather, they looked like the cat that ate the canary. However, I let know that in no uncertain terms they were thrilled to have such cooperation and investment from their patient. Thank you again- Yuka Re: 's Brace > Yuka, > > How is life for with his brace now? Guest guest
no one really breathes the answer to that question ..... I estimate two years - that leaves room to be thrilled it's less and be patient if it's close to three..... I must have been Bill Clinton's political advisor- lower their expectations and show up looking good ) smiles~! yuka Re: 's Brace > Yuka, > > I can just picture it. must be very proud that he has the inner > strength to do all that. > > So how long will it take? > > > > > Bonnie, Mom to Kris 23, Patty CHARGE 21 and wife to >

Guest guest
All I can say Yuka is that I am in awe of your young man. I only wish in time I can acquire the grace he has. And so he should be proud of his willingness and acceptance of yet another challenge with such grace. Made me giggle to visualise cracking up at the notion of his mother going to have a cry. You guys sound like such good friends. You are an amazing mum and I love hearing about . I dare say he has quite a fan club in CHARGEland.
