To be willing to learn and realize that what works for other kids is not

enough for our kids is so huge. If you have a team who gets that, who is

willing to learn what your child needs instead of attempting to force your

child into their preconceived path, then you are off to a great start!

That is awesome!! I am working on getting our staff to a training as well.

I don't think they can imagine the impact it can have. I don't think a

person can imagine the depth of CHARGE until they experience something like

a training. Even working closely with one child can't help a person " get

it " like experiencing the overall gestalt of CHARGE. I used to think it was

enough for Aubrie's team to get Aubrie and that they didn't need to get the

whole of CHARGE. Now I have turned around to thinking they must understand

the whole of CHARGE in order to understand Aubrie.

In terms of calling a meeting I think that is in order. We have so much

Michele,

I just read this but your last sentence is perfect. It is true for all

professionals, for all services, and for all of life! They must understand the

whole of CHARGE to understand ___put name here___!!

Bonnie-

Cool development yesterday. I presented a CHARGE training in a nearby town

expecting all strangers. But the entire PT group from our area was there as

well as nearly all of Aubrie's EI providers from ISD, ISVI, etc.

Afterwards, the PTs who are currently working with her were so receptive and

shared ideas about how to modify what I do for a training at our school

before she transitions to the middle school next year. It was really

helpful to see and hear their responses and now I think they will help in

getting the rest of the staff to understand the need. One commented on how

much it helped to see it all. That Aubrie's seems to being doing so well --

she had no idea of all of the complications. The other said every other

slide needs to reiterate that everything is combined. They got it!

Also -- the vision specialist who had seen Aubrie from 0-3, commented on how

far I've come. She remembers her first visits with me holding Aubrie in my

lap and being very protective about letting them touch or interact with her

til I knew what they were gonna do. And of course they all remember my

constant tears and anguish. I'd forgotten the protectiveness. Funny.

Oh, Michele, I think the protectiveness returns in early adulthood even as it

diminishes as we parents get hold of things before then. Your comment

made me smile --- and remember so much. That's surprisingly nice.

I hope so to make it to the St. L. conference. Andy is checking his

inter-session teaching schedule as I write. With 's house still up in

the air, I'm not quite sure what we'll be able to do. Think I'll telephone

Larry to see what our options are.
