I bought a walker at the Goodwill several months pre-op (intending to make a garden seat out of it), crutches at a thrift store, and had been using the sock helper for a couple of years pre-op also. My mom loaned my the raised seat that she had used for her first hip, so the only things I brought home new from the hospital (besides my fabulous Conserve+ hips) were the grabber, dressing stick and leg lifter. If you are going to Belgium, I would imagine you are going to have to buy all the above yourself. s and crutches abound at thrift stores. I used the grabber and dressing stick a fair amount. I could have improvised with the leg lifter, and the sock helper was invaluable. Oh yeah, I also bought a couple of pair of elastic shoe laces (the curly ones) since I couldn't begin to reach my toes.
