Guest guest
Hi Joanne, I'll let you know what I find out about Dr. Weil. The only other things I tried from naturesflavors were the wild berry, strawberry, etc. flavorings...no sweetener in them. They are good for ice cream, etc., but I still need to use sweetener. When we were testing blood sugars, I had been advised from others on the group to test upon waking (especially if morning seizures are a problem), right before a meal, and then again about 90 minutes after a meal. I believe in theory blood sugars should be highest at the 90 minute mark....everything hitting the bloodstream by then. If readings are high just before a meal, it might mean not enough calories and the body is burning muscle (releasing glucose). We also did them when Macie was having cycles of seizures to see how it compared to times when she was doing perfectly fine. Someone PLEASE jump in if I'm mistaken about this! We did this solely on help from the group as our center didn't believe it was necessary or helpful. We bought the Freestyle kit because it requires the smallest amount of blood of any other brands. It is marketed toward use with children. We could do it on the forearm, thigh, etc., which is much less painful than finger sticks (believe me, my husband and I practiced on ourselves). I hated the thoughts of doing it to Macie, but I had the belief that anything we could try that might help give us some clues would be worth it. She did very well with the sticks after the first couple of days. As I've mentioned before, her readings were all over the place, so we didn't continue after about a month. There are others here that use glucose monitoring with the help of their keto centers. Maybe they can offer some more helpful information. Good luck! Guest guest
Hi Glenna, The info you've given me so far re: blood sugars has been extremely valuable. I'll continue to monitor. Jordan doesn't like to be poked, like most kids of course, so I'll have to be selective as to when I test him. Thanks again for helping me begin to figure outanother piece of this complex puzzle.
