Saccharin has been determined to cause cancer in laboratory

animals. I would rather see you be happy with club soda.

Apple and Eve has a new drink that is only fruit + water, I think. They are

in little bottles.

Elaine has strongly defended saccharin. These studies have been re=evaluated

and saccharine declared no danger to humans.

Elaine to Marla:

" Dr. Haas permitted saccharin and I have done a great deal of library

research on its use. You are correct in stating that club soda is a great

way to go instead of any artificial sweeteners. But I would never have

suggested saccharin's use if there was any basis to the cancer claims. I

have researched this for over 40 years. One must be careful of politics and

economics in research and saccharin fell under the onslaught of aspartame's

hype. "

I've gotten them at Acme supermarket, which in the West used to be called

Alpha Beta. I also got them at the local health/organic food market.

I have not seen these and I have no idea whether they are legal,

but don't forget that Welch's, Tropicana and Dole Pineapple

juices can all be bought in single serving sized containers.

You can mix them with sparking water to make a fizzy drink for

your child.

Here's something that is realllly reallly yummy - take frozen 100% juice

concentrate and mix a couple of spoonfulls in club soda - voila! Instant soda

and very yummy and you can flavor as weak or as strong as you want!

Here's the problem - frozen juice concentrate is illegal because it was found

most had undisclosed added sugar to the concentrate. I don't like to make this

with plain juice because it doesn't add enough flavor. Does anyone know of a

juice concentrate that truly is 100% legal? I haven't made any since we started

SCD because I don't want to accidentally consume illegals.

Boy, don't we all know that…follow the money trail on a study to

find its validity!

" But I would never have suggested saccharin's use if there was any

That's good to know but even if there were a chance I wouldn't take

it nor would I give it to my child.

IMHO, Chemicals should not be put in to the body especially if it is

not working properly and if we were working properly we wouldn`t be

here! lol. I like to think that we have a body by God not man and

I make spritzers from the just juice line. About 1/4 juice and the

rest club soda. If you mix the blueberry it kinda tastes like a

wine. The kids love them for a special treat.

No, I haven't found any. I like grape juice diluted with club soda

and find it plenty sweet. Half juice half club soda.

Perhaps you can make your own juice concentrates by simmering down

legal juices or fruit.

You could also stir in a little honey or saccharine to up the

sweetness. If I use honey I 'll warm it with a couple of drops of

boiling water so that it will disperse evenly through the liquid. I

like to do this with frozen cubes of squeezed lemon or lime juice

and club soda.

There's also the recipe for homemade ginger ale -- boil grated ginger,

strain, then boil with honey to make a syrup. Refriderate, then mix

with cold seltzer to the sweetness you want. Once, we did ginger mint

from a recipe in a medieval cookbook. Very refreshing.

Knudsen has little bottles of liquid Black Cherry Juice concentrate. That's

it for the ingredients listed on the label. I bought this at Whole Foods.

I haven't tasted it yet.
