Guest guest
, I have heard that their now have been about 20 ambulances sent from across the state. I find it curious that this information appears to be top secret for some reason and other EMS organizations are not being kept informed in the event we may wish to re-consider our systems ability to send staff and units. Being 6 medics short already it would be hard for us to do so. That doesn't mean that we don't want to or that if this thing gets any bigger and more out of control medically, we may have to step up to the plate as others are and will need to do. Before we can do that we need to be informed of current EMS involved and the current need. If I were ten years younger and in better health, I would already be there. But I am not so I guess I have to be a bystander. I think those that are there and on the way are doing a great job. Henry " E. Guest guest
There are now, and have always been more than one channel to go through. DSHS, albeit our local source, is not the end all for channels. What really stands out in my mind about this disaster, is that what we see on TV right now, the thousands upon thousands that need assistance, is nothing more than the tip of the iceberg. Imagine the diseases that will be rampant after the flood waters recede. The help that is there now, those that have traveled to aide, cannot be there until the end. They must have some relief. I don't know if plans have been made to rotate medics through. This is going to go on for a very long time. The need for assistance will be there for months. That said, areas that need help, may not have any other channels to go through, other than word of mouth, this issue on their part certainly does not mean that they do not need, nor deserve the help. Although Mike is a bit more straightfarward than most when it comes to the idiocy of some people, he is right in the respect that if Randy Rescue decides to pack up and go after reading the first sentence of a post, then he/she will possibly be nothing more than 'in the way', not to mention very dissappointed. I wish I could go, I wish we had a unit we could send. I wish I could be there now, I could be packed and on my way in minutes. The first thing I would do is contact DSHS, then Mid Georgia etc, and the first to ask me to go would be the one to get me. By the way, this has a lot to do with reading comprehension. Guest guest
OK...this is the biggest health care/refugee crisis the US has faced since the civil war.......Everyone certified in EMS in the State of Texas, who wishes/able to, should take a role by either responding directly or in a support role. Several agencies/personnel are bogged down by red-tape and bureaucracy. Thus, either delaying or causing non-response. Legalities and ICS are important matters. However, it seems since Gov. opened the doors to LA refugees, the red-tape and bureaucracy would be mitigated and better communication could be sent to all of us statewide. This will go on for some time. Those medics who are there now will tire and wear out very soon, if not already. Who IS heading up the Texas EMS response....If you are out there, we could use a status report. This list would be an excellent venue. Otherwise we have a jumbled mess of one or two services taking the brunt of response and mass confusion of individual medics bugging Acadian and other LA services to find out what is truely needed. Give us current overall personnel strength and an EASY way to respond when needed. Develop a rotation schedule for all Texas licensed providers/personnel for the next several weeks for LA, MS response, as well as covering decreased strength Texas jurisdictions. Have a central disembarking and returning points where Intel, equipment, and supplies can be given to those responding and returning. Is help needed in the Astrodome, Reunion Arena, and other refugee centers? Do immunization clinics need to be staffed for possible malaria and yellow fever? Time's a-wastn' and so are lives.... -MH >>> hbarber@... 09/01/05 2:19 PM >>> , I have heard that their now have been about 20 ambulances sent from across the state. Reunion Area is open to refugees, but is being staffed by Dallas FD paramedics who are being paid OT. They've set up a schedule already... and are handling Reunion Arena " internally. Guest guest
Rob, Once again you’ve posted something to the list that makes me wonder about your cognitive abilities. What if you had been where the officers were shot? What if you had been there at the Superdome? Was either scene safe? If it wasn’t, did you and your partner (assuming you can find someone that is equally as ignorant as you) just become additional victims? Gee whiz bro, take a chill pill and try to come back to reality. Open your Basic EMT Textbook, and endeavor to recall the fist thing you learned (or should have, maybe this is the problem) about emergency response. This really is not brain surgery. Let me refresh your memory about Safety Priorities: 1) You 2) Your Partner(s) (this includes first responders, firefighters, cops, etc) 3) Victim (your patient) 4) Everyone else Given the above, how could any paramedic being at the Superdome made a speck of difference? Being in the disaster area without proper authorization is not being part of the solution; therefore by your own words, you would be part of the problem. E. Tate, LP Whitehouse, Texas dustdevil31 wrote: " simple_emt " <simple_emt@y...> wrote: > > Call TDH and ask. There is a reason for the process they use. , two police officers were shot this morning and there were no medics available to help them. There is a woman in labour on the steps of the Superdome right now and not a medic anywhere to be had. Do you really think they give a rats ass what Texas DSHS has to say about it in Austin? Would you care if you were that woman, that police officer, or his wife? There aren't sufficient authorities in NO right now to check looting, rape, murder, arson and carjacking. How many do you think are out there checking for cert cards and reciprocity letters? Nobody needs a license to provide basic medical care anymore than they need a boating license to pluck people off of rooftops. If you aren't part of the solution, you are part of the problem, and yes, you have blood on your hands. Rob

I didn't realize you were simply advocating the abandonment of the relief efforts altogether. You should have just said so in the beginning and we wouldn't have had this little misunderstanding. Guest guest
Whoops! Ain't I a butt? Wrong list. Must be the heat. My bad. This was cross posted to another list that I moderate. > > Let's play nice boys. Y'all want to have this childish spat, take it > offline.
