We have a Border Collie seizure alert dog. Have had her for over 3 years. She

does not do seizure " prediction " , but alerts us when my son is seizing at

night. He has most seizures during the hours of 2:00am and 7:00am. She sleeps

next to him and wakes us when he's seizing. She goes to school and just about

everywhere else with him.

We got her in Concordia, Kansas at CARES Inc. Have been very pleased with her

and she's a lovely dog. The puppies are sent to foster raisers for obedience

training their first year, then back to CARES for service training their second

year. Then when they are about 2 years old they are matched with an applicant.

You need to fill out an application and references. The wait for a dog can be

up to two years depending on the size of the waiting list and the types of dogs

they have available. Once matched, you are required to go to Kansas to be

paired with your dog and stay for about 2 weeks of training. You also need to

pass a service dog test (you and the dog!) before you can " graduate. "

You get temporary ownership I think for about a year, then permanent ownership.

CARES was wonderful. Very nice people on staff. Their prices are incredibly

reasonable (under $500) and they give dogs to children. I think they prefer the

child be at least 5 years old. My son was 4 at the time.

CARES is at 1-.

Owner/CEO is Holbert.

They are non-profit and don't have a website that I know of. You can use my

name if you want.
