Guest guest
Yeah, our son, Chaz, had trouble getting comfortable in his car seat, too. He was so tiny when they put the DBB on him, and his bottom couldn't reach the back of the seat because the bar was too wide to fit inbetween the sides of the carseat. We helped the problem by putting a rolled receiving blanket behind his knees. You don't want to put anything between the baby's back, head, or bottom and the carseat because it may decrease the effectiveness of the safety seat. I didnt' understand the problem you described thatyou are having with Josh's DBB. Hope that helps some. Guest guest
We put a small pillow wedge behind Alaya which pushed the bar out to the edge of the seat. (It was actually a pillow made for pregnant women to use while sleeping) We thought about getting a new seat, but since she was only going to be in the bar full time for three months decided against it. It wasn't really a problem. Joanne.

Guest guest
Oh yeah, When I put the pillow behind Alaya I went to the state troopers post and had them check it. They said that it should not be any problem if we were in an accident. Joanne
Guest guest
Our son was about 7 months old going into the brace and by 8 months our Pediatrician told us to turn him around. We went to a larger forward facing car seat early. He was 19lbs and very long, but we still worried. Her concern was in a head on collision that his bar may hit him in the head. I know it is possible because he would hit himself in the head from time to time. We did not take any road trips for awhile because we were concerned that he was still a little small to be forward facing, but around town I felt Okay. I don't think this would be an option for babies that start treatment from birth and go into the brace at 1-2 months of age. and Caleb 3-31-01 Car Seats Hi again, Has anyone experienced difficulties with rear facing car seats and a child wearing a bar? Josh can't straighten his legs when in his seat and this is causing discomfort when driving. Any products tried and tested that alleviate this problem?? Guest guest
We too transfered our daughter to a forward facing car seat, she was older also starting in the bar and had always been a big baby, so although she was not one year old yet (8 months) she was already 20 pounds. Our pediatrician told us that it was more of a hazard to have her sitting with her legs cramped against the backseat in the event of an accident than to put her in an appropriate forward facing car seat. We went out and bought a weight appropriate (20 pounds and up) forward facing, 5 point harness type. Not only was she safer in it, she was much more comfortable. Guest guest
Hi Philip I meant to reply earlier to your post. Have you been successful with the car seat? We also had difficulties with Ben's first car seat, the small newborn and up to 9/10kg seat did not had enough room with Ben in his boots and bar. We bought a Britax Club Class Extra, (if I had read your message on the Sunday night I could have let you try Josh in it on the Monday we met),we find it excellent. It is a reversible seat allowing both rearward facing and forward facing positions. We were not keen on putting Ben in forward facing and have only now at 8 1/2 months moved the seat to the forward facing position (last night actually). The seat itself has a very good reclining movement and in the rear facing position Ben had good clearance from the seat allowing his legs to sit comfortably. In the forward facing mode he looks like the laziest boy on earth, he is almost horizontal! You may well have resolved the problems, if not I would recommend the seat we use. Best wishes Tom, Corinne & Ben > Hi again, > > Has anyone experienced difficulties with rear facing car seats and a > child wearing a bar? Guest guest
Tom, Thanks for the advice, I'll certainly check out the seat you mention. Our Markell boots and bar arrived today and they appear to be a much better product than before. The fitting in the heel is very good and looks as if it will hold the heel in well. The bar is long and should allow us to ensure that the width between Josh's feet is correct. Any word on Ben's scan as yet?? Philip Re: Car Seats Hi Philip I meant to reply earlier to your post. Guest guest
I am curious about your carseat laws. In the US, the law is to keep the baby rear facing until 20 pounds or one year old, whichever comes later. I have heard of exceptions, like if the bar were touching the backseat, where it would be dangerous in an accident. Also, children have to be in a carseat/booster until they are 40 pounds or 5 years old, whichever comes later. One year I had a small group of Kindergarteners and before every fieldtrip I would weigh them to see if they needed to bring their carseat to ride in other parents' cars. Most parents were unaware of the weight restriction. They thought it was just based on age. My mother was pulled over and given a ticket because my nephew (who was well over 40 pounds) was not yet 5 years old. Other parents I know have been pulled over and given tickets as well. We also have a Britax carseat and love it. They are very popular in my area because they are the safest seat on the market. Double the cost of other seats but well worth it. Guest guest
Joanne, I don't think it's against the law to have a child forward facing before 20 lbs or 1 year old. It's just the safety recommendation. As long as the child is in the car seat, I doubt if they could give you a ticket. We turned 's seat forward early also because of the bar. I think it's mainly an issue for the children who are in the bar full time when they are older because their legs are longer. Personally, I couldn't figure out why it was safer to be backwards vs. forwards. If you get rear-ended, it'd be safer to be backwards, if you got hit front on, it'd be safer to be forward (thinking about the resulting force on the neck anyway). Maybe they should ride sideways- just don't get T-boned. & (3-16-00) > > > Hi again, > > > > > > Has anyone experienced difficulties with rear facing car seats and > >a > > > child wearing a bar? Guest guest
Hi Philip, We have also received our boots, everything looks OK. The only problem we have is that the appliance department ordered the right boot (non-clubfoot) slightly bigger than he currently requires the result being that the boot seems fairly slack. We might wait a couple of weeks before we use his new boots as his current ones fit well. Have you received the platizode heel insert yet? Ben is still suffering from a small blister on his heel and I feel the moulded inserts would avoid the rubbing. I have e-mailed the appropriate department in Iowa, but have had no reply. As of yet we have had no word on Ben's scan. Thanks for asking. Guest guest
Hi Joanne I am unsure of the specifics of the law that governs the use of infant seats in the UK. Certainly when you are looking to buy a forward facing child seat from our experience the majority of retailers will question age, weight and the child's ability to sit unaided (20mins or so). In our case the bar and boots were pushing against the back seat when our sons was still in his first seat and that was the main reason we looked for a new car seat. Owing to the fact he still wobbled like a skittle at that time, we searched for a combination rearward / front facing unit. Best wishes Tom, Corinne & Ben Re: Car Seats >Date: Thu, 08 Aug 2002 08:45:14 -0000 > > >Hi Philip > >I meant to reply earlier to your post.
