Guest guest
Hi Carol, When my Mom was on a similar treatment she took Emend. It helped her with nausea that she would experience 3 or 4 days after a treatment. Perhaps your doctor could prescribe it. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Carol, was also on Xeloda, but not the oxaliplatin. He never had any trouble with nausea until they started him on iron pills. The Onc was kind enough to give us different samples. About the only one he could tolerate was Hemocyte and they even gave him mild nausea. I don't know for sure but the Onc. told us that Iron tablets can cause constipation. You might want to ask if they have any samples that you can try until you hit on one you can tolerate. I am sure this is not the case for everyone and I don't know if this is common, but you may want to ask your Oncologist. Guest guest
I had trouble tolerating iron pills but finally found I can take Shaklee multi vitamins because it contains a spinach iron instead of the kind most have in them. Guest guest
Start with ZOFRAN. Ask your Dr. if you can have a prescription. This works well for my husband. Narice

It was tough to avoid nausea, but I found motility drugs (to encourage the digestive system to keep moving) helped, as I wasn't digesting stuff fast enough and I could taste the oxaliplatin while lying in bed at night. Drink lots of water. I know it is hard to down a glass all at once, so just keep sipping all day. All the best!
Guest guest
Carol: I know what you mean about the iron..I used to have the same problem. I found that Vitron C worked well...it's the combo iron and vitamin c. Doesn't give you that " cannon ball " feeling in the gut. Hope you are well.
