Guest guest
That is frustrating!!! Especially the bathroom stuff. It definately could be illegals so you'll have to do some serious investigating to see where/when he could be getting something. Has anything changed in his environment at all? New school/new teacher? Anything noticeably smelly in his classroom? Mold? It could be some weird allergic reaction. Eating non food items is a bit alarming as well. Hopefully some of these questions will help you figure it all out. Wish I could be of more help! Chrystee Sam SCD 9 months Also this weekend he was vomiting(stomach virus is going around in this area) and when I was cleaning it up I noticed alot of little pieces of elastic and plastic he must be picking up off of the floor or somewhere ??????? Guest guest
Hi Sue, Any chance he is getting illegals at school? Does he ride the school bus? - there may be illegals there also. Any chance the school was sprayed for bugs, or pesticides, new carpets, paint etc.? Maybe others have more possible ideas. Sheila 45 mos SCD, 20 yrs UC mom of SCD 30 mos > My 9 yr old As son has been on the SCD diet for over a year and doing great until recently. I think he must be getting something somewhere he shouldnt have to eat because his behavior is really off the wall and I am at the end at what to do? First theres the bathroom problem- I found him peeing out his bedroom window- then he started to pee on his carpet then he decided to pee on the bathroom floor- not an accident he does it on purpose and is smiling. Now he started peeing all over the floor on purpose at school and today he wet himself at school while in the bathroom and one time today he reportedly at school tried to drink his urine as he was peeing. He also has started biting, hiting kicking anyone and himself- we rarely see this behavior at home and he was doing perfect on his bathroom routines and self help skills before this. He also is asking for foods he can't have like donuts ect(this is always a dead give away in the past that he has eaten a food not on his diet.) Our house is SCD proof- we put all illegal foods locked away, and my other kids are excellent about eating at the table and picking up crumbs ect. Guest guest
hi sue, i find it interesting that a lot of people on the board talk about regression of toilet training and in your son's case, just peeing anywhere. I am wondering if it is a sign of yeast die off becuase when my son first started the diet, he began peeing anywhere, especially in the middle of the night, he'd jsut pee on his bedroom floor, after years of being potty trained. then, when we backed up on the diet and started cooking fruits and veggies, the same nasty bathroom behaviors came back. thank goodness, they have been temporary but a pheonenom, none the less. why would yeast die off cause this abnormal behavior? i hope it clears up soon. kim, mom to charlee, age 8 scd 6 months Re: some ot but really need suggestions > > > Hi Sue, > > Any chance he is getting illegals at school? Guest guest
Hi Sue: Try googling " pica " especially the site referring to the mouthing of objects. Although not certain re causes, it could point to a nutritional deficiency, ie. zinc and/or iron deficiencies have been identified in some cases of pica. May need to redirect his need for oral stimulation while you are investigating what is causing this in your son. Chewing gum, etc. Some behaviour therapists can do a functional assessment of this behaviour. Hope you find a way to help him, God bless. mum to Mimi (7, 1 week SCD) ASD, getting more language every day... 3cjs1@... wrote: hi sue, i find it interesting that a lot of people on the board talk about regression of toilet training and in your son's case, just peeing anywhere. Guest guest
Sue: The other thought that occurred to me is that sometimes we see " rebellious " bathroom behaviour when a child feels over-controlled. One of the difficulties of SCD is that there is such strict control over what food he eats. Maybe if you were to offer him a choice of foods, ask him to help set up a menu for example, that might help him feel that he has some control over his life. This also goes for his daily schedule, esp. at school. He is reaching an age where he would like to call some shots. Perhaps you could try negotiating with the teacher(s) so that he could have some say as to how his day goes. A case study of very violent behaviour in a teenaged boy with ASD, who responded very well to mum and therapists handing over some control to him, was presented at the Toronto Symposium for Autism this month (Geneva Centre for Autism were the organizers.) Again, God bless. Mum to Mimi sue kleese wrote: My 9 yr old As son has been on the SCD diet for over a year and doing great until recently.
