heparin/baby aspirin? (late-term loss ment.)

Hi Ladies--

I went to see a " big " perinatologist at Yale this past Friday, to

talk about the cause of my son's death @37 weeks (supposedly a blood

clot in his cord), my BU/SU? uterus and what path I should take for

the future. Net result: he said that having resection surgery is a

very good idea, and that the septum (which is big) could have led to

a confinement in my son's movement in utero, which could have

contributed to the formation of a blood clot (even though this is an

extremely rare cause of death). There are also many blood-clotting

disorders out there--and dh and I have already been tested for most

of them (with no significant findings). Anyway, he is recommending a

few more tests for blood-clotting issues, and advising me to take

baby aspirin and " low molecular weight heparin " in a subsequent

pregnancy. Is anyone experienced in this issue or in taking these

meds during pregnancy? I would appreciate any advice---thanks for

listening.

I am preg 9 wks and although my blood tests came back with no clotting

problems my RE still has me on an 81mg aspirin everyday. There are a lot of

things they don't know. Aspirin has been found to have many theraputic

values included an excelent blood thinner. When women get preg their blood

tends to clot more leading to problems all through out the 9 months. All

though I am not on heperin my RE did think about that too. It is safe and

effective and has a very good outcome for women with clotting problems

during pregnancy. - Liz

Thanks, Liz, for sharing that info. with me. Most people I have heard from have

a known blood-clotting factor, and I do not (have tested negative so far)--but

since we lost due to a blood clot, it's better safe than sorry. And it is good

to hear that these medicines are safe, which was my worry. I appreciate your

input very much. And have a good pregnancy. Take care---

Hi ,

I also have the mutation is one of the MTHFR gene's (heterozygous -

controversial if it's causing blood clots or not, but with my history

of 3 m/c, better safe than sorry) and I'm on folic acid and vitiamin

b as well as baby aspirin. When I had my lap/hyst last spring, my

doctor told me to stop the aspirin a week before the surgery, and my

guess is that, in late pregnancy, they would monitor the baby's

movement and heartbeat closely while probably cut back on the blood

thinner the week or so before the c-section. Many, many women are on

either aspirin or heparin, or both, and have uneventful c-sections or

vaginal births. I'm not sure, but I beleive that a vaginal birth

could be just as " bloody " (for lack of a better word) as a c-section.

My two cents. Have a great time in Aruba!
