Guest guest Posted May 29, 2004 Report Share Posted May 29, 2004 Katy, On the same exact thing and with the same organ involvement - it sounds as if you are tolerating the chemo well. Generally, I am too. Got Camptosar treatment on Tuesday and had 5FU portable pump disconnected on Thursday at noon. I was really exhausted on Friday and had a minor bit of dia. Thursday night, and a little nausea. Good news is that the fatigue is mostly gone today, the bowels came under control nicely, and Zofran did away with the nausea. Unlike FOLFOX, all is going as planned from a side effect point of view. My only hope with this is that, unlike FOLFOX, things don't become cumulative so that this treatment will be indicative of others to come. Chapped/sore lips. I've had them (associated with a facial rash also) since I started chemo about 2 months back, and it has yet to fully go away. Its not bad, but you know its there. My doc said said that Decadron, which I was getting beforehand, was probably causing it. We stopped it, and although the rash/lips do not " recur " per se, they never really fully went away either - no big deal. If chapstick/Vaseline works, keep it up - but also be sure to tell your doctor when you see him before the next treatment - the docs really need to know every little thing. The really IMPORTANT thing with these things, based on experience, is to keep on top of GI stuff, if it occurs. As the wallet card that I'm sure your caregivers gave you says, as soon as your bowels change (if they do), start popping the immodium and don't stop until it goes away for 12 hours. Bowel problems with CPT 11 can start pretty long after the treatment is over, in addition to right at the onset. As my doc says, don't get disappointed in the lack of side effects (many people think that if they don't get side effects that the chemo isn't working - not true). Guest guest Posted May 30, 2004 Report Share Posted May 30, 2004 Just a suggestion,Katy,since I am not a patient here and Hubby hasn't experienced this...BUT..I have dry skin and tend to get very sore chapped lips and have found that using my normal eye cream on my lips as well as my eyes really makes a difference!It's worth a try!
