From what I have read you still have time for him to turn on his own. The

dooula trick I have heard most often working is to use an ICE PACK to get him

to move. Place it on his head and he will readjust... Everyone I heard use

this has worked....

Good Luck!

Hey thanks! I'll try that one....it might just work for this baby.

He's already got an attitude and he's not even born yet. He doesn't

like being messed with at all! My last one was really into being

read to in utero, music too, but this one is something else. Warren

was head down almost the entire time. This little booger is head up

the entire time....I guess when they say no two babies are alike it's

true!

Which makes me wonder cause Warren was a very needy baby....I

couldn't leave his side without him screaming his little eyes out.

He wanted constant attention. So does that mean this one will be

independent from birth? So far is acting opposite from his

brother....

Thanks again,

Lori~

OK, I just have to ask a few questions: Has your doc offered to

try do a version to turn the baby around either before or during

labor? Why the induction? Was your first child of average size and

was your delivery a normal vaginal delivery?

Also, here is a link to a good source for trying to turn breech

babies. http://www.birthsource.com/proarticlefile/proarticle66.html

I should tell you that one of my favorite theories on breech

babies is that they turn around so that they can be closer to the

mom's heartbeat. Sometimes this is because the pregnancy has been

difficult and stressful and the baby senses this-- sometimes it may

be insight into the kind of person the baby will become. In any case,

it can't hurt to " talk " to your baby and reassure him that turning

around will be safer and better for both of you.

Finally, I had a client who wanted a homebirth which she could

not do with her breech baby and she visited an acupuncturist

recommended by her midwife. The acupuncturist used trigger points to

encourage the baby to turn. She did and was born a week later, at

home.

I like that theory, whether or not it's " scientific " ... :-) ... Could

I ask you what the " CD DONA " stands for after your name?

I'm always glad to have practitioners and women who are familiar with a

wide variety of birthing methods here on the list... pregnancy, labor

and delivery are very personal, and each individual will have a

preference for a particular kind of experience. It's such a help to have

people on the list who can give us perspectives.

I would refuse a version even if offered. I'm not worried about

having a c-section at all; I was just surprised and prepared for a

vaginal delivery like I had before. Our first son was 9 1/2 pounds,

24 inches....he was huge! He left the hospital the next day at 10.3

pounds....hence the induction this time around.

Just trying to figure out some home remedies to get baby to turn, and

even if he doesn't that's fine too. :-) He's fine where he is...he

has no health concerns and if the only thing I have to complain about

is that he's head up....well, I consider myself lucky. He could have

a lot worse going on, but he doesn't. I should count my blessings. :-

Kendra was not head up but transverse at 37 weeks...my girlfriends baby was head

up and moved on his own at 37 1/2 weeks. Is an inversion out of question?

O

Looks like a c-section for me.....

Wednesday I had my regular weekly OB visit and the nurse couldn't

find the heartbeat to do my non-stress test. I wasn't the lest bit

scared cause he was moving around all morning and when she was trying

to find his heartbeat. The doc put me in her ultrasound room to take

a look at the heart and sure enough it was there, but she also

discovered that he was totally head up. Aw man!! His heartbeat is

really low like last week so he must have been head up then too.

Apparently he's in a really funky position. I'm just curious about

the odds of him moving downward at this late stage in the game? I am

35.5 weeks today and my OB will induce on July 22nd.....regardless of

c-section or pitocin. July 22nd puts me at 38.1 weeks, so he doesn't

have til week 40 to turn himself. I'm going to look up some

exercises that may help him flip.....

Any suggestions?

Curious, why would you refuse a version? Before you enter the 38th week try

some of the following:

1) get on all 4's, raise butt high into the air and rest head on a pillow. Do

that 10-30 minutes every 2 hours. (This is the exercise I did when Kendra was

transverse) By the way, my Doula and Bradley instructor were really into this

method.

2) Check out a chiro for adjustments and or acupressure. Make sure he's

skilled in it and has experience w/ prego patients.

3) My aerobics instructor did this: played grunge (?sp) rock with the speaker

right at the vaginal canal, alternating having her young son talk at that same

area.

You are forgiven this time Ms. O... :-) How's that baby girl?

Actaully a version is completely out of the question! You have to

admit it's not the most comfortable thing to endure...and the way he

is now, well, I don't think he will like it. My other son would have

been a great baby to turn like that but not this one. I don't want

to put him in distress or make me have an immediate c-section. It's

not worth it to me. Besides, if this is all I'm worried about this

far into my pregnancy then I really have nothing to worry about.

He's got all ten toes, and all ten fingers, all 4 chambers of the

heart, 2 eyes, 2 ears, he's perfect.....maybe he just doesn't like

being upside down?

Like I said, I'm not worried about it.....I'll give a few exercises

and some ice a try but I won't go for a version.

Lori~

P.s. In a slight way I'm kinda hoping for a c-section. I want my

tubes tied, otherwise I will end up with an IUD.

I have heard (never experienced) that a chiropractor who is

experienced in turning breech babies may be able to adjust your spine

in order to get your baby to drop head first. If you have a

chiroprator, call and ask if they or any of their colleagues have

this experience. Good luck...and if all else fails, a c-section is

not that bad. My son was born via a scheduled c-section and I think

that surgery was not as bad as my lap RNY that I had a year later.

I am pregnant with my second and have opted to go c-section this

time, too. Best wishes!

Lori,

I guess I just always think a vaginal delivery is preferable to a

c-section but that's the doula in me and I know some people feel

differently. The link I included in my first post has a few low-tech

ways to try and turn a breech. Your first baby was big, but not

excessively big. Were you at term? And for a baby to gain 11 ounces

in a 24 hour period in the first days of life is amazing-- are you

sure they weighed him correctly? :-D

CD just means I'm a certified doula and I certified with DONA,

Doulas of North America, the largest organization in the U.S.. I've

been doing doula work for almost two years (I started just after my

son was born when I had an great experience with my own doula-

assisted hospital birth). I've attended home births, birth center

births, hospital births and a parking lot birth (not one of my

clients-- just a woman on her way in to the hospital who needed a

little " support " ! hee hee)
