Guest guest
Hello All! First off congrats to all the new mommies and mommies to be out there! Second, my apologies as this is probably considered a rather long post, but I really need somewhere to vent! I had my pre-birth registration at the hospital today. That went great other than the fact that when they took my glucose level it was 13.4. Ouch. Its never that high. I have type 2 diabetes and have been medication free for about a year now. I was taking Metformin, but i really hated the side effects so I stopped taking it. The nurse that I saw today scheduled me in for a gestational clinic and and appointment with the dietician to discuss what I'm eating and how I can improve it vastly. She told me to get my gp to write a script for a new monitor so I can keep track of things until I see the OB and he can does any insulin as required. So off I went to my family physican today. Thank God its the last time that I ever have to see him in regards to my prenatal care again. (I start seeing my OB in 2 weeks!) He is such an A** with a capital A. I told him that I wanted a fasting glucose test and a full metabolic workup ordered and he told me that I could wait until I saw my OB for that. I tried to tell him about the glucose monitor and he had a big old cow about it. His opinion was that basically some " nurse " wasn't going to reconmend things above him. So he took my sugar and it was at 7.1 (note I still hadn't eaten at all today except for a coffee). He wouldn't fill out the paper work. Finally, his poor receptionist called the hospital and got the GD clinic to fax over something that would get the stuff covered. He didnt' sign it though so the receptionist just put an x in the signature line and handed it to me. And then to top it all off, he comes in the room while I'm looking at my own medical file and tries to give me crap for it. What an idiot, he was sputtering some bull about insurance and how I have to ask to see my file. Yeha right, i dont' buy that for a second. He was just being a jerk. Anyways, i noticed that my last ultrasound report wasn't in the file, (May 1) so i had to twist his arm to get him to call the lab and get them to fax it over. And lo and behold, i was supposed to go back 2 weeks ago for a level 2 ultrasound of the baby's heart because they couldn't see all 4 chambers last time. I was so mad that they don't follow up with anything there. And if I call in I always get the same old you have to make an appointment to get any information, or the lame old we would call you if something was wrong. Needless to say, i left the office this morning with my entire medical file in tow and I got an appointment for this friday for the ultrasound. I'm just wondering if anyone else had any issues with not being able to see certain aspects of the baby in utero due to the weight? I'm only asking if its due to the weight because this was written in my ultrasound report : " Detail of gross fetal anatomy is limited by the patient body habitus. " Basically to me that says that I'm too fat to get a clear picture. I though and was sure that I had read that abdominal fat wasn't an issue for ultrasounds? Anybody have any info on this? Much appreciated in advance. Thanks for letting me vent!!! Janis edd sept 21 2002 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
