Guest guest
Well Kat You need vegetables. They are important to your nutrition. The vitamins and minerals contained in vegetables can be taken in pill form, but the body uses the ones found in vegetables better. No, veggie burgers are not vegetables. They are made of soy. Soy is a legume, not a vegetable. Veggie refers to vegetarian, not vegetable. I would suggest you try adding one new vegetable a week. Ask us for ways to serve it. Food likes and dislikes are usually choices, except in the case of liver. You can develop new tastes quite easily by simply eating the food in a variety of ways, finding the one that is least distasteful and eating that. Pretty soon you develop a taste for it and no longer find it repulsive. My husband was just like you. He didn't like vegetables, didn't want to eat them, only wanted the starchy vegetables. We finally agreed that he could choose one or two veggies that he truly DID NOT like, but if I made anything else he would at least take a small helping. He just hates brussel sprouts and cauliflower. Everything else he eats, and now even makes them himself. It was just a matter of recognizing that he's an adult now and needs to eat foods that feed his body's needs as well as wants, and developing a liking for different and new flavors and textures. Can you do WWers without eating any vegetables? Sure. It's probably going to mean you get less to eat each day, and it's not the healthiest thing as fruit is high in calories (relative to vegetables) and sugars. But it is your decision, ultimately. I think if you give it a try you'll find that you can change your tastes. ~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~' Tory Klementsen, MCP A+ Career and Technology Educator www.teechur.com www.msteechur.com -The successful person will do the things that the unsuccessful person will not. > on vegies > > > ok, I have to admit this, I do not like most veggies. Guest guest
Hi Kat, don't you wish you LIKED more veggies?? I know I wish I did! Unfortunately, I don't, but with the help of this group I am trying to add more. (I actually wish there were more fruits I liked also!) Before this group I ate pretty much zero veggies ( I don't count corn & potatoes as veggies for this purpose) and maybe 1 fruit a day. I have upped that to 2 fruits a day and a veggie at least every other day. Big improvement for me. I eat a salad probably twice a week with 1 oz. low fat shredded cheese, some chicken and really good salad dressing (that made the difference) I like Trader Joe's Parmesan Ranch & also their Creamy Basil. I now make a spinach/groud turkey loaf from a WW recipe book and I'm hoping to try the Pureed Veggie Soup recipe that was just listed here recently (thanks Bette). The point I wanted to make was, yes, you can lose the weight without eating the veggies, I know I did, but it sure would be a lot easier if you did eat them. (And healthier, too.) My 20 point target comes mighty quickly with water being my only zero point item. But I continue to try to find new ways to get them in (slowly.....but I'm trying!) My 8yo daughter asked me tonight what brussel sprouts tasted like, it got brought up at school today. I told her we'll pick some up and she can try them, I thought that was a better answer than telling her they taste like dirt! I'm hoping her taste buds are less sensitive than mine! We'll see! Good luck Kat, and if you find any good ways to disguise a veggie, so it doesn't taste like one, please share it with me! -- Kat BM aka MommaKat wrote: > > ok, I have to admit this, I do not like most veggies. Guest guest
I don't like alot of veggies. I can eat more kinds of them in a soup with a tomato paste and FF chicken broth base with taco seasoning. I have had jaw surgery so eating salads is hard on my jaws, and I don't really like the lettuce much, so I use sprouts instead of lettuce when I can. I don't waste my energy on ice burg lettuce since it has little nutrition. I have found out that I really like squash and zucchini, so I eat that steamed. It's really worth playing around with how each veggie is cooked. I don't like fresh or frozen green beans, but I like them canned. I don't like frozen peas, I like them canned. I don't like canned corn, I like it frozen. I don't like any veggies if they are too crunchy. I like to use " I can't believe it's not butter " spray and salt and pepper on my veggies. More importantly, just stay OP and work toward eating more veggies... don't allow the veggie thing to be an excuse not to loose weight. Marlana www.Marlana.org/ on vegies ok, I have to admit this, I do not like most veggies. I like peas, corn, potatos, tomatos.. that's about it. I love most fruits, so I've mostly been doing fruits the last 4 weeks for my veggie/fruits. well I'm getting tired of fruits. Also, we have to go the store like every other day, or they are not fresh enough to work for me. I tried a green bean the other day, and while it didn't make me hurl, I could only bring myself to eat one. I'm thinking taking some veggies, and puree them, and sneak them into a stew or something... Question.... do soy burgers/meat and such count as a veggie?? some of them are not bad tasting... i need some inspiration.. anyone else out there not really like veggies, and you are losing the weight anyway? One of the reasons I've never been able to keep weight off in past diet attempts is the insistance on green veggies... I did weight watchers about 11 years ago, and it was salad, salad salad..... so I ate next to nothing (as lettice makes me gag) ( and no, I do not know why, other than the texture, and the smell), I had dizzy spells, felt crappy all the time, and a royal bitch... I got to my lowest adult weight, 204. never could go under 204... and after I finally decided it wasn't worth living that way, I probably regained the 30 lbs I lost and another 20 becides... probably in less than a year. so far, except for last weekend, it's not been so hard or bad.. for one thing, while I " m holding myself accountable, I am not trying to " punish " myself when I fall off the wagon. just try to get myself back on the wagon. so this time around I'm just at 10 lbs lost in 4 weeks, but I actually feel better ( I " m excerising at work 4 times a week, and i " ve very proud of myself here.. I've done it every workday now for over 3 weeks without fail.. this is the longest I've ever maintained an excersise program!! ) and for the most part I don't feel deprived. I just hope I can do this without veggies. I'm going to systematically try many at least once a week, but I'm not going to force myself either... I want these to be permiment changes in my life!!! Guest guest
This was SO funny!! (I even laughed out loud!) My cousin's youngest daughter is 9 and Brussels sprouts are her FAVORITE vegetable. I tell ya, I am just amazed at how many kids I meet who really LIKE vegetables! This same girl also loves green and black olives. I need to work on my vegetable intake as well. Currently, the only cooked vegetables that I like are broccoli that has been stir fried and French cut green beans. Well, I do like peas, but I guess that I just haven't eaten them lately. I KNOW that I need to work on this... but I think that perhaps some of my dislike is the SMELL of the vegetables cooking. PS. I should add that I do like lettuce, but I just don't tend to think of that as a " vegetable " because even though I eat romaine, it just doesn't seem like it is anything but a filler. (Does that make sense?) Kind of like I don't think of the weight of those Styrofoam peanuts when I am shipping something. > -----Original Message----- > From: Willett > > My 8yo daughter asked me tonight what brussel sprouts tasted > like, it got brought up at school today. One night last year at the dinner table, my Dad rolled his eyes at the brussel spouts on his plate and asked my Mom " Do I *have* to eat this now that the kids are gone? " Turns out that ever since he was a kid, he hated brussel sprouts. And all these years, he'd been bravely eating his brussel sprouts to set a good example for us kids. And all these years my Mom never knew that he *didn't* like brussel sprouts. Donna from Surrey, British Columbia, Canada Donna.Hrynkiw@... I've already tried a few new veggies, but so far no sucess. again, I thought/hope weight watchers is all about choices to lose weight, not rigid and unbendable. you see if I can do this without veggies, with the understanding it might be *easier* with eating them, it takes some of the pressure off. It took me 34 years to put this weight on, it's not going to come off in a month, and so habits/likes/dislikes whatever I figure I have a few years to get all the new thoughts and ways down pat. right now I'm just working on staying on points, and trying to incorperate as much fruit and veggies as I can without making the diet unbearable. slow and steady as she goes!! I tend to eat a very heavy evening meal, but it's still all on points. I think my worst snack attacks happen just as soon as supper is done, for about 45 minutes after supper, I just want to eat more... maybe because I'm not eating as much as I used to? hopefully this will past with time.... right now I've made a deal with myself.. after supper, no other eating for at least an hour...I'm putting any left overs away as soon as everyone get's a serving, because if it's out it's harder not to nibble on it. usually at the end of the hour then I don't need to eat anything, or I just eat alittle something. During the day at work has never really been a problem, it's all eating at night, or worse late at night when I stay up to late. so I " m getting more sleep 2, cause I can't eat in my sleep! Guest guest
Kat Sure you can do it without vegetables, especially at the beginning. I'm not saying you SHOULD, but you could. Howev3er, when you get towards the end and are close to goal you'll hit that 20 point target and suddenly you might want to add more veggies into your diet because they are free. Like I said, maybe try one new one a week, or maybe one a month. Or try cooking them with something else. When I was a nanny I used to cook peas, carrots, and apples together. It gave them all a sweetness and the kids loved them...ate their veggies with relish.

Guest guest
Of course you can do this diet while not eating too many veggies. The most healthy way to eat is to include veggies in your diet, but as long as you're taking a multi-vitamin every day, that will help. =) My statements may upset some people, but I lost 39 lbs. my first time on WW and I ate hardly any veggies at all. =) When I was on the diet and had to eat 5 a day, I would just drink my servings in V8. Re: on vegies >>Ask us for ways to serve it. Food likes and dislikes are usually choices, except in the case of > liver. ok, I got to ask, what makes Liver so special??? I dislike, extremely dislike, the texture of most veggies, to the point of gagging.. I've always been this way, even as a baby. and the smells! ugh! saurkraut just about makes me hurl, just from the odor. but yes, I'm going to try to adapt and be more open to veggies, but I guess I was hoping for a line to be thrown (aka drowning person!), that if I can't bring myself to eating veggies, that I can still do this weight loss thing.
