Guest guest
Jill - I don't know why your resurfacing failed, but I do know people who have THRs and they are doing very well - one skies all the time and the other is a great golfer. My husband recently had a resurfacing with the attitude that if it didn't work, he could always get a THR. Thank goodness, there are alternatives! I can understand how disappointed you are - given the estatic postings on this site. The important thing is for you to regain your mobility and I'm sure you will. Here's to a speedy recovery! genie

Guest guest
Jill, I hope that very soon, experiencing the joy of being able to walk again without pain will serve as a distraction to your painful disappointment and allow you to enjoy your new hip. Guest guest
Dear Jill, So sorry to hear about your complications. They must have been devastating - especially when everything was proceeding so auspiciously. There is a gentleman in England who posted here concerning the failure of his BHR several weeks (perhaps 6 to 8) after installation. He had a lot of questions about what had gone wrong and I don't know if they were ever answered. May I ask how old you are? McMinn has said that the greatest risk of femoral fracture following resurfacing is in in post-menopausal women with marginal bone stock. Usually, though, this happens right after surgery, sometimes while the patient is still on the table. Again, my sympathies and best wishes for a speedy rehab and pain-free, exceedingly mobile future. Guest guest
Hi Jill, How awful for you to have to have 2 ops in such a short time without the hassle of failing prothesis on top of that......... I thought at least the bottom bit - head of femur- was cemented in.......... so sounds like something very nasty happened for it to actually move enough to fracture the femur.......or a fracture happened during the process - which I have heard can happen, especially with us women....... As others have said THR's do give pretty good results....... and hopefully you will have lots of success in trying out yours.......... and I suspect unless you are the type that wants to do those way out sporty things there isn't a heap of difference on the 'what is possible' in a normal life...... I cannot have a THR because of past bone disease problems but I will never be pushing my BHR all that far.........apart from the rest of the body no longer being able to take it, I simply need the BHR to last the rest of my life............ Guess it is hard to cope though with feeling like you have missed out.......... I always find someone worse off when I meet this feeling and it sure cheers one up pretty quickly........... All the best, Edith > This is my first message for 2 months although my husband has posted > a message for me. Guest guest
Hi Jill! We've been following your progress and keeping you in our good thoughts.... soon you'll be posting great things about your THR - others have - and it makes all of us happy to know one less person is suffering from hip pain!! Besides, as someone so eloquently put it: " we're all just a sneeze away from a THR ourselves " Best wishes! Guest guest
Hi Jill. I have a THR after a failed resurfacing. You can write me at ruddbob@.... Mine is going great. In fact I am on my way to the gym for a good workout. Bob

Guest guest
Bob: I would also be very interested in hearing of your experience if you don't mind sharing it with us. Ken > > Hi Jill.
