Guest guest
You are indeed lucky, I have PsA and tried Minocin for 8 months with no perceptible change. I then switched to Doxy, adding clindamycin IV's later. My progress has been positive, but slow and seem to have plateaued... -Mike- -----Original Message-----From: Ronnie [mailto:ronevans@...]Sent: December 20, 2000 3:36 PMrheumaticegroupsCc: rheeumaticegroupsSubject: rheumatic Antibiotic Protocol for Psoriatic Arthritis This question is for any of you on AP for PA or know the protocol. I have PA in my hands and have been on minocine for several weeks starting at 50 mgs Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with suprizing early and positive results. My rheumatologist is clueless with AP and just prescribing what I have requested. My research indicates that some MDs are supplementing Azithromycine 1 gram once a week or Doxycycline as well as other supplemental drugs. I've recently stopped taking MTX and Sulfazadine to try AP. Obviously, I'm looking for the most effective combination. I'm trying to see Dr. Franco in Riverside C.A. but it takes a while to get in. It seems even the MDs using the AP all have different variations. I know a lot is dependant on spacific test, but is there such a thing as a standard antibiotic protocol for PA? Guest guest
Hi Ronnie, The protocol for psoriatic arthritis is the same as for RA and the other diseases in this group - basically minocycline or doxycycline for mild or short term disease and the addition of clindamycin for long term or serious disease. You'll find the protocol in question 2 of our FAQ or I can help - clindamycin can be taken as intravenous injections, intramuscular injections or oral. The newer antibiotics are being tried now and some people are taking minocycline or doxycycline, 100-200mg on MWF and 250-500mg azithromycin or clarithromycin on Tues and Thurs. If you're doing well on minocycline, why not try increasing the dose slowly by about 50mg per week first of all - the minocycline dose can go up to 200mg MWF or 200mg Mon to Fri with weekends off. This would seem like a good step for you next. Chris. On Wed, 20 Dec 2000, Ronnie wrote: > This question is for any of you on AP for PA or know the protocol.
