You have to 'cleanse your bowel' beforehand, then they do an IV where they put dye in to do the Xray. To be honest it was not pleasant, but it wasn't painful or anything. I think they can also do a CTscan or MRI and get the same information. Those tests are just more expensive though. They did find a spinal anomolie with my IVP. My right kidney is in my pelvis and my left kidney is " partially malrotated " . So, the CT scan does do a good job. My RE took one look at my CT scan results also and knew I was SU. , they also noticed back problems on my CT scan. Odd you say that. Guest guest Posted October 8, 2004 Report Share Posted October 8, 2004 Mikell, None of my doctors have mentioned MURCS, but I looked it up previously and it seemed so much more severe than anything I have. Also, all of my problems (my kidney, my back, my uterus) were all detected at different times by different people, thus I'm not sure that any one of them had all of the info. Guest guest Posted October 8, 2004 Report Share Posted October 8, 2004 They say back and/or kidney problems are related to MA's. At least I read that when researching and also my RE stated so. I've had back problems since about age 19 but just figured out this particular problem because the RE wanted to check my kidneys. I had previously been diagnosed with a herniated disc which is in no way related to what was found with my IVP. So of course DH is now worried about my back if I ever get PG. Well I'm worried too, but some back pain will be worth it! I can usually control it pretty well by keeping my core muscles in good shape. Guest guest Posted October 8, 2004 Report Share Posted October 8, 2004 I forget the exact term of what my RE referred to it. I just remember him mentioning some sort of 'fusion'. His nurse was supposed to make me a copy of the report the last time I was there but I forgot to ask for it. So on Monday when I go for my post-op appointment I'll ask for it.
