Guest guest
I've had 2 separate resections by 2 separate docs ... they both said 2 months. My most recent doc is a specialist who does this all the time, and he said (and I'm SOOOO paraphrasing, I can't remember exactly how he said it, so this is just how I heard it) that removing a septum exposes parts of the uterus that have never been exposed before and have never had any lining on them before, and they really need a couple of cycles to build that up. He was pretty adamant about waiting. I even asked him if it would be terrible for and " accident " to happen, and he was not at all happy with that idea. Both he and my other doc were open to, but not encouraging of " accidents " after miscarriages, but they were both much more strongly set on 2 months after a resection. Hope that helps ... -Ami > Hi Ladies, > > I'm just wondering why a person has to wait two cycles to TTC after > the resection surgery. I'm wondering if it isn't similar to some doctors telling women they have to wait to TTC for 2 cycles after a m/c and some say to wait 3 or 4 cycles. Is it just a matter of different doctors offering different time lines? I'm more curious than anything and wondering if 2 months is the standard wait time you all who have had resections were given.>> Jasmine, After my first resection (a biggie) I was told to wait 8-10 weeks or two cycles. After my second, really minor resection, I was told to wait one cycle, or four weeks. The reason behind waiting is sound. If the resection was extensive, it takes two months for the endometrium to regrow and become normal in structure (as shown by biopsy and histological examination). And it takes 8 to 10 weeks for the uterine lining's inflammatory response to go away. Until everything has returned to normal, the chance of miscarriage is higher than normal. If you were to get pregnant now, your baby would probably make it, but it would not have the best possible odds. I do know of some women who got pregnant a month or so after their surgeries and fared just fine. A couple also miscarried, but since my recollections are vague, I can't do a statistical analysis :-) Beth SU, resected x
Guest guest
Hi Jasmine, I had 2 surgeries and was told to wait 2 cyles after the first surgery...kinda silly considering the big fat septum was still there. My second surgery was a success and my dr was ok with just waiting a month. I got pg on my first try but m/c at 6 wks...not enough time to heal? or just a pg that wasn't meant to happen? I'll never know. I was ok with taking the risk at one month and I had the support of my dr. But, I really feel that if you can wait 2 mos, the healing will be done and inflammation will be gone and you will have an optimal environment for ttc. Guest guest
Hi Jasmine, I thought I'd let you know that my RE asked us to wait to ttc till I had had three cycles/periods (I wasn't on any hormones or anything & they came like clockwork). His explanation was that the area where the septum had been removed needed time to heal - especially so the endometrial lining could grow over that area and develop well so it'd be ready for supporting a pregnancy. I thought that was worth the wait. (Still waiting, but that's beside the point!) Sandy, 31 SU resected 3/
